My friend just went to his family's lake house on Lake Summit near Hendersonville, NC and it got me thinking about all the great lakes we have in our region and how many there are. What are some of your favorite lakes for vacationing or even living or having a 2nd home. This is where I learned to water ski many moons ago.

Lake Summit

It is the time of the year to be out on (or in) the water!

Hope this isn't too much of a travel thread that it has to be moved.

Just going to say it.
I’m not a fan of lakes and prefer the beach

But Charlotte where I’m from has Lake Norman
Columbia has Lake Murray

They’re good ones

Norris Lake -- East TN

Watauga Lake -- East TN

Both are beautiful and towards the top of the list in the South East IMO

Bonus: South Holston Lake, TN

While the entire area is flooded beyond belief at the moment... Lake Dardanelle is a very pretty.

Gotta go with the deep, limestone rimmed canyon reservoirs if that's what we're talking about.

Nothing muddy. Clear to aqua green waters, lots of coves and islands.

Beaver Lake, in Northwest Arkansas. Lake Travis outside Austin.

Greers Ferry Lake in North Arkansas is a less populated, less-busy version of Beaver. Clearer water, as a result.

I go back and forth, they both have their merits. Being from South Fla I am probably more enamored with a pretty mountain lake.

Table Rock Lake

I would throw Lake of the Ozarks in there too, but most of y'all would contend that isn't in the South.

This post made me think of an interesting fact.

Reelfoot lake is Tennessee's only natural lake.

Are there any other SE states like this?

Yep, wish there was a little more to do around the lake but that comes with the positive of not having a ton of people around it. It is funny how many times I will bring friends from Tennessee or Texas to Greers Ferry and they are amazed by the clearness of the water.

I believe Caddo Lake in East Texas is the only natural lake in Texas. I know I read that somewhere.

They must live near some dirty waterways -- of which there are several. There are lakes in TN with very clear water.

It's not aesthetic by any means, but Lake Okeechobee still produces big bass. A fun lake (and the rim canal) to fish.
