They must live near some dirty waterways -- of which there are several. There are lakes in TN with very clear water.

A lot of people from the Memphis area like to go to Greers Ferry. Not much clear water in the delta.

Lake Ouachita outside Hot Springs:

My favorite lake for sure. Followed by Greers Ferry, Norfork, Bull Shoals, Table Rock and Beaver.

Living in the rockies has spoiled me when it comes to beauty, so no lake in the south is really remarkable to me except for Caddo Lake.

Yep, same with me

Lake St John (outside Ferriday, La)

Not much to look at as far as beauty, but I’ve NEVER gone without catching fish...

Just spent some time out in the Tennessee, NC border area and I'm not sure which side of each lake we visited fell of the border, but all those out there are pretty bitchin. Lake Nantahalla was awesome. The two or three dams along the Occoee are very nice. Really enjoyed that trip. North Carolina in particular may be the nicest state in the union.

Lake James in Nebo, NC. Right on the cusp of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

In Northwest LA:

Lake Bistineau is awesome for water skiing in the early morning. The water is smooth like glass and it is like you are gliding on air. Fishing is pretty good too.

Toledo Bend is one of the best fishing lakes in all of the South.

Caddo Lake has been mentioned before, good fishing and water skiing and is one the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen. It is great for running watercraft around on.

Maybe I’m just common, but I love Wedowee, AL. Not heavily trafficked and I like being away from people.

Caddo lake has a river that feeds it, wouldn't that make it man made?
