Sounds like it's got to do with tightness in your neck.

I don't think it's a brain thing.

I'm not an big supporter of chiropractors, but the ones that deal with deep tissue stuff would be a good bet for relieving the tension that's causing these.

This is a common thing with athletes. And the suggested solution usually helps.

I couldn't feel tightness in the neck either, it's not like a tight quad or something that is obvious to us.

I just known for headaches like the ones you're describing the solution can often be found in dealing with the muscle tissue in the neck area.

I wouldn't be worried about neurological stuff at this point.

Most Neurologists worth going to will require a referral from your GP anyway.

I had Clusters from age 21-30 with them getting progressively worse with age. They randomly came on out of no where and went away randomly and have not had one in 6 years. No other way to describe them but as absolute hell. Age 28 was the worst with seven trips to the ER because nothing else worked besides a morphine or demerol drip.

Try the different "Triptans" to see which one works best for you. I tried them all, but found the Imitrex injections to work the best for me. Oxygen can also provide a little relief, but it was kind of hit or miss. Also, find your triggers and avoid them, i.e. certain alcohol, foods, smoking.

Might sound dumb, but I believe part of the reason they stopped for me was due to seeing a counselor and unpacking years of psychological baggage. It is crazy what effect stress can have on your body.

Best of luck to you as these can be truly life altering.

I get icepick headaches which sounds almost the same as the ones you are describing. Mine can only last do a few seconds though but they feel like someone is literally driving an ice pick through my temple/eye.

I had these for about a year when I was 25.

I wouldn't wish them upon anyone. I remember thinking if someone told me cutting off my arm would stop the pain, I'd have gladly cut off my arm.

They are that bad.

Same time every day, just debilitating. Doctors couldn't help. I was at wits end, I really felt like I was losing it.

Then they just stopped. Out of the blue.

Looking back I believe they were caused by stress. I was fresh out of the Navy, new job, going to school, and going through a divorce at the time.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with these for such an extended period of time.

This was 15 years ago for me. At the time there were a few treatments such as oxygen and some scripts. None of them really worked. I'm not surprised there still isn't any real help available.

I had a doctor who claimed it was a psychosomatic thing. He sent me to massage therapy and got me to do relaxation and breathing exercises, and they stopped soon after.

Maybe give that a shot?

Good luck.

Sounds like how my migraine attacks started

I'm ready to see a physician about them. (Procrastinator & not big on doctors).

Never hurts to see a doc early on something like this. Could be nothing, but if it is something better to catch it early as possible.

Could be how you're sleeping, too, man. Consider changing your pillow. Most of the time, with me, it's stress. I had a nervous twitch in my eye for a good two and a half weeks last month due to a new contract I'm hammering out.

All headaches are outside your brain, so no neuropathy is associated with it. I would guess that your issues are associated with your sinuses. You may need to have them scraped.

It's gross but you feel like a new person afterwards. Definitely let your GP know what you're experiencing.

I had a friend who had them real bad. This is back a while when I actually had a real job. He had a oxygen tank next to his desk in our office. He would have to use it a few days a week due to them

Good luck getting it fixed.

I had them. Cut out caffeine altogether for a few months, no preservatives, and regularly stretched my neck. Problem solved.

I found caffeine was my trigger, which is odd because it's in most headache meds

I get migraines really bad, and am going through the process to get a second referral to my nuerologist (I haven't been in a few years). When I get them bad, I have to go to the ER. It sucks - bad. Good luck.

Have a co-worker who does. He went to a clinic here in Houston that specializes in headaches. He had been to several Dr.'s who could not figure it out, they helped him first day, says he hasn't had any trouble since he got on the medicine they gave him. I think it is called The Headache Clinic

Cluster H/As are severely debilitating.

I would ask for a neurologist.
