Yesterday's ruling by Fed court in Tx is the right direction.. allowing sales across state lines should never have been restricted back in 1968.

And what did it get them, more home invasions and violent crimes being committed.
No thanks, I'll keep my gun to protect myself if needed.

I'm not proposing a ban on guns. Just trying to stem discussion to prevent school shootings and mass murders.

@cokbottleag I've seen those graphics before, when I was consulting for FAPRI... The pitfall of the graphs are the fact that they include all homicides, and not simply the gun violence ones.

"For 2011/12, police in England and Wales recorded 541 offences as homicide, of which 42 (8%) involved the use of firearms"

So people will commit violent crimes without guns?

Addressing socio/economic conditions, single parent households and mental health issues would do far more to prevent school shootings and mass murders.

People were killing each other long before guns were invented and they will be killing each other if we destroy every last gun on earth. All it will do is make mass murder a more bloody event as the murder will have to stab, club, or choke his victims, or it will lead to school bombings instead of school shootings. I say arm and train some teachers and let em protect themselves and the kids.

I agree. All those issues are the key. The key to fixing those are education. We must realize that not everyone is equal.

What should be happening instead...

Instead.. kids are being taught to fear inanimate objects, that human life is disposable if you can convince yourself a fetus is not a human and celebrates moral decay as a way of life.

Australia went through this a few years back and went surprisingly well.

It did? They've had absolutely no gun related incidents since then and stabbings didn't skyrocket?

Then fix how this country treats is mentally ill. That is the cause of mass murder and shootings. Not an inanimate piece of metal. Just like you don't blame the car when a drunk kills people in a wreck.

Went well? Didn't home invasion and non gun crimes go way up. Yes, "Gun crimes" went down but every other type of crime went through the roof.

Plus right after sandy hook, there was a school massacre in China, but the killer used a knife. Banning guns won't do any good. If someone wants to kill people they won't need a gun to do it.

The way to prevent school shootings is to:

a) arm teachers. This can be accomplished safely by using lockboxes in every classroom, passworded or using fingerprint authentication.

b) remove the insanity of 'gun free zones' that do nothing but prevent law abiding citizens from concealed carrying when picking up or dropping off their kids.

Do you have any actual facts that gun bans or limits cause people to be safer?

Yes, it did go well...The number of mass shootings has decreased to 2 in the time since legislation has passed 18 years ago. They had 13 in the 18 previous years.

Mind you, the legislation isn't a ban on guns. Simply a required background check, registration process, and various clip size regulations.

The worst school massacre in the history of United States happened in 1927 and the murderer did not use a firearm.

Any teacher will tell you, that is about the most attention boys that age will pay to anything. They are fricking locked in on that cop.

That knife dude in China killed an unreal number of people, didn't he? Just think, if 1 local Chinese person had a firearm, how many people might have been saved?

Want to call the police and wait on the help to get there? Good luck with that.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but stabbings are a heck of a lot easier to stop than a shooter. To argue that violence won't stop is a mute point, because we all know this. We SHOULD focus on stopping those with mental problems before they act.

IMO- I would rather face an attacker with a knife while unarmed to a person with a gun while unarmed.
