"Pinball Wizard" - The Who, from "Tommy."

Actually, this is Elton's version from the movie, but I think it's better.

The Coolies were a talented band that enjoyed mocking popular music all in good fun. For example, they did punk rock versions of Simon and Garfunkel songs. Their best album was a rock opera entitled “Doug”. A lot of the music in it sounds as if it could have been performed by The Who, so it was obviously poking a little fun at Tommy. It was meant as a parody to the weak story lines in all rock operas.

The story of the album is quite funny if not taken seriously, but not very politically correct. It is the story of a skin head named Doug that kills a popular cook, Pussy Cook, that is a drag queen. Doug discovers that Pussy Cook had an unpublished recipe book and steals it, publishing it under his own name. Doug becomes extremely wealthy, but eventually becomes paranoid that people know of the murder and are out to get him. Thinking that he will be poisoned, he quits eating and uses crack cocaine to overcome his hunger pains.

The lyrics are funny and can’t be taken seriously, but musically this is a pretty good song.

Wild Wild Life from David Byrne's 1986 film, True Stories. John Goodman even has a role in the flick. Directed by David Bryne and soundtracked by Talking Heads, it's a bizarre hour and a half full of catchy tunes.
