I know RH had a TD. Printz was 15/16 for 97 yards vs the number 3s.

Matter article on the scrimmage...
1st Fall Scrimmage Report

Doesn't sound like anyone was especially outstanding today. But, they're working kinks out.

15/16?!?!?! QB of the future it sounds to me. Sounds like Mauk has a hard time protecting the ball. Seems like I heard that in the spring as well. Grin and bear it with Franklin one more year and then bring on Printz if you ask me.

I've been a Mauk hater from the start, and it doesn't change today. He sucks. He's not athletic, and he has terrible mechanics.

I really hope, and think, that Berks will get the #2 spot. IFF he doesn't, it's for PR reasons.

We just saw a RS FR win the Heisman. Printz was here for spring ball, I really really wish true FR QBs weren't automatically written off. It's dumb.

I think Berks is the worst QB on the team. I truly believe if we had almost anyone else in the nation last year besides him we win a few more games. Vandy being the big one. As for EP, sounds like hes not willing to make mistakes. Could not get the ball down field but also didnt wanna force anything. The more comfortable he gets within the offense and in college level football I think he will be more apt to throw downfield. The guy can throw a pretty ball deep.

Tomfoolery. Hogwash. Behouaohaafock..

Berks is not the worst on the team. And gauging how you feel based on last year is terrible. He had no offensive line last year, he needs to sit in the pocket for a second, he didn't get any protection to be the pro style pocket passer that he is.

Best arm on team, hands down. And a tank of a body to get short yardage plays when he needs to.

Berk hate is groupthink behavior at its best.

My criticisms with Berk last season involved more about inexperience and fit. He looked overwhelmed when Franklin went down, not ready to step in and lead the team. He has little scrambling ability, and likes passing plays that take a while to set up, which suits his skill set, but is not a fit for this offense. And it was a disaster last season with the OL issues we had.

He's a good QB, I just don't think he's a fit in our offense. And I can't imagine how going even more up-tempo will improve that for him.

Strong arm. Has a rocket launcher that is for sure. But he is one of the most inaccurate passers I have ever seen. I love the idea of using him how OU used Blake Bell or how Florida used Tebow his first year. Bring him in on short yardage or goal line plays. Has the threat to throw and the strong body to gain a few yards up the middle. As for throwing down field past 7 yards. He cant do it. Berks completion percentage last year 49% Franklin 59% behind the same OLine. Franklin threw about 60 more passes than Berks did.

From the little I've seen, Printz by far and away throws the best ball downfield. 100x's better than Franklin. Better than Mauk. Better than Hosick. Berk has a strong arm, but I think Printz throws a better ball.

He's cut his body fat in half.

I see your angle for why an up tempo offense would be bad for him, but I don't buy it.

He would not be asked to be a scrambler, getting plays off fast and throwing the ball from the pocket, or handing the ball off doesn't wear him out any faster.

Scrambling bc we had no OL, getting hit on every play, and being too pudgy last year killed him. Not to mention he wasn't prepared mentally.

Also, he was thrown to the fire with little prep time. Vandy has one of the best secondaries, Bama was nat'l championships, ASU had a decent defense. He really got the short end last year.

I'm with ya mogray. I don't think Berk is as bad as some make out. In fact, I'd probably still prefer him over Franklin, but will ride with whatever decision the staff makes. I also just don't think that ultimately he's the best QB on the team either.

As mad as I was at JF, I think he's our best option. So yeah, I'm not making an argument that Berk is our best, I just think he's far from our worst.

#35 Tyler Hunt a walk on tailback looked very good today ran with a low center of gravity. I wonder if we will try to use him at full back. Mike Sam was heard yelling "will somebody please tackle #35... Looks like everyone is afraid to tackle him out there" granted he worked with the 3 and 4 teams but seemed very powerful...

Also heard bohem had more trouble snapping the ball today

"We've got plenty of actual stories.  The first couple are on the front page and more will come the rest of today and tomorrow.  But since this is our first real chance to see the team in action, Pete and I are both going to post some of our stream of consciousness observations, stuff that may not be in actual stories.  Here are mine:

*I don't know when Gary Pinkel will state this publicly, but I'll be beyond shocked if James Franklin isn't the starting QB.  Not only is he playing the best, but he got about 95% of the first-team reps today.

Mauk started slowly, but did get a lot better.  Still, Franklin's the guy.

*The first-team offensive line should be better.  But is there more depth?  I don't know yet.  I can't break down OL play in a scrimmage because there are just too many things we're trying to watch.  The snaps weren't as bad as last year, but they weren't good.  It needs to be fine tuned.

*Missouri is fine at tailback.  I thought Hansbrough looked very good.  Murphy did too.  No need to overwork Josey, just ease him back in.

*The receiving corps is deep.  I didn't think it was a real good day for DGB or Hunt, but they'll be fine.  Loved to see Lucas do what he did.

*Kony Ealy looks really good so far in camp.

*Freshmen to watch:  Crawford, Augusta, Reese, Moore, Penton.  Not out of the question they could all see the field this season.

*Didn't notice a single empty backfield set.  Doesn't mean it's gone from the playbook, but I didn't see it.

*Speaking of formations, I saw one where Missouri had two tight ends in the game...and both were attached to the line. Henson's talk of using these guys in different ways isn't just lip service.  I think they'll become a bigger part of the passing game, but they'll have more traditional tight end responsibilities too.

*I can never take too much out of the kicking game in scrimmages because it's just impossible to simulate an actual game.  But I'm not sold on the placekicking at this point in time.

*Biggest question mark for me:  Safety.  With White out and Singleton more than a week late to camp, what happens here?  Braylon Webb will start.  Beyond that, no idea.

*Keep an eye on Kentrell Brothers.  He was out there quite a bit and made a couple of plays including a pick.

*Play of the Day:  With the QB rolling right (can't remember which one), Eric Waters peeled back and laid a block on Matt Hoch that took Missouri's starting DT right off his feet.  Was just one heck of a shot."

From what I read, Boehm snapped the ball over Mauk's head. He was mad at himself for not doing a better job of adjusting the snaps for the QB since Mauk is shorter than Franklin. I think he'll get that worked out.

I don't like hearing that the OL needs work though. That is a concern, especially after last year.

Agreed. However I do believe we have more depth this year despite Gabes unknowning. our guys have bulked which should make them more durable. However could make us slower and more vulnerable at defending the pass rush.
