re: No QB Controversy

Posted by TrueSon2014 on 9/9/23 at 9:48 pm
To be honest both sucked lol. A good line would hold the pocket better than what we saw today. A good qb throws the ball away not taking sacks or giving up a safety.

Overall today was a mess for all aspects of the team. Only bright side is we managed to still squeak out a win. That won’t be the case without major improvements otherwise this team has no hope against higher quality opponents let alone conference play.

This game was painful.

Tried our best to lose and almost willed that L into existence.

re: Harbison out as Safeties Coach

Ah really? Great for him, but since he is a positional coach and not an assistant probably hurts our chances at this point

Anyone know any other names / targets MU would be looking at?

I know we have Safeties, TE, and Strength and Conditioning Coaching spots open at the moment.

with an opening on the defensive side of the staff i wonder how possible or likely something like poaching steeples would be.

Steeples is from STL, played for MU, and beyond that his time in STL was pretty impressive rebuilding DeSmet's football team into a national powerhouse. Got tapped from HS ball to the NFL (impressive on its own!)... I would think he is a good recruiter and has good ties in the MO footprint. Also not sure what exactly his role is on LSU staff, but knowing we have a potential position coach opening makes this very curious.

Drink putting in a ton of work and I am loving it.

Question I have is i think this means as it stands now we have 9 S... does that mean more attrition coming? Either way this is a quality transfer with some big upside in our system. Well done, would like to see some LB/DT support as well!

There’s at least a 50% chance that Drink said it was his decision so that Tyler didn’t get any blowback from fans.

^Agree 100% TB has given and shown enough already also has no NIL money so would rather him not get hurt at this point in his career anyway go secure the bag Tyler!

I am interested to see more of the younger backs we have, would like to see if Butts (and others) gets some action too. Taj was pretty stellar at DeSmet would like to see him get a role on this team in the future.

Funny thing is I think its a couple of things in no particular order: A)team performance, B) tailgating experience, and C) in- game experience.

A)Team Performance- I think the '22 recruiting cycle has helped this a lot. I know personally I have had a lot of casual fans reach out to me having interest in checking out this batch of recruits and just overall pulse on the program. Props to Drink and Co. to put that together, work isnt done yet and a good season (or more) would really elevate this program. Pair that with some improved marketing and it could really take off. I think people talking around the state like this is a great first step excited to see more.

B) Tailgating Experience- Farout has a lot going for it (close to campus and not far from downtown, facility upgrades, light the dome, tiger walk etc) which is a good start.... but there are things that can obviously be improved upon. Maybe with NIL working on putting together some sort of sponsored tailgate downtown, or in close proximity. I think being able to see other SEC stadiums and build on that is a good idea. We have the bones to have something special here just gotta put it all together.

C) In Game Atmosphere- I touched on this a little in B, upgrades are really nice bringing in elevating Farout to the next level. I think overall I like the new seating map/plan the AD had released so thats another plus. That being said I think the speakers i the stadium are disappointing not sure why it only comes from the one side (north endzone), also the music seems dated and we reuse the same songs multiple times per game, and on TV they seem to show the most barren sections (might be fixed with new seating plan). So of the 3 points i think this one has the most work to do.

Overall I think we have a good foundation, and aren't light-years away but as many have said on this board we need to start acting like the SEC program that we are and continue elevating. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

This is really just a pipe dream at this point but apparently Kevin Coleman is still unsigned.... any reasons why? (I have friends who went to St. Mary's and apparently told me he was an Oregon lean, but i know their HC has since gone to Miami)....Any chance he could still end up at MU?

Apparently Mizzou is expecting to take 16 - 17 this year.

With Jones waiting I think we sit at 14/15 for this class.

Any ideas on the other potential 2 are? Wesolak, and is there someone else I am forgetting? Or is this other spot a transfer most likely?

lots to like with this class for sure besides it being the best ranked recruiting class in Mizzou history.

Like you said the measurements and overall athletic ability of the class are off the chart on both sides of the ball.

A stud QB coming in who was a big part of his school winning state in a football recruiting hotbed.

A top 5 WR with all of the skills to produce at the next level from day one.

future is exciting if not just outright bright

Also hearing these NLI have rolled in as well:

Jamarion Wayne (WR, 3*)
Valen Erickson (OL, 3*)
Issac Thompson (S, 4*)
Jalen Marshall (DT, 3*)
Yeah Drink is the same age as Lincoln (38), and would tend to agree most coaches do not stay at the same institution their whole careers, but if there was a conference for that to happen it would most likely be in the SEC at this point because of the facilities, athletic department budgets, and prestige as a whole.

I agree with another post in this thread about it will depend on what Drink ultimately wants, but the jump from a Sunbelt team to the SEC is not comparable from the SEC to another P5. I am not saying Mizzou's job is the most attractive on the market but our facilities are continuing to make strides as well as having legitimate benefits of being the only FBS institution in the state. Couple that with the recruiting successes and Drink's ties to the Southeast I think he is in a pretty good spot for himself with us or for the next step if that is somewhere else (Another SEC school perhaps, or NFL). So far all the results point to him making the most of his current situation, and selling the future vision to recruits which would have me to believe at this time he's pretty happy where he is at but I guess time will tell.

I don't think he'd leave, I'd think he'd RUN.

Any reason or thought behind why you would think this? Drink is bringing in a top 15 class (with upside to be a top 12 class nationally). To me this does not seem like he wants out, rather he is doubling down to build something here in COMO. I just feel like if he were already planning a next step it would show up on the recruiting trail results.

Lots of coaching carousel this year indeed, but there are lots of proven coaches out there that I would think are more front-and-center between the NCAA and NFL ranks but maybe thats just me. Would think the Tigers would start talking extension for Drink next year (year 3 of his 6 year contract)but I guess we will see.

re: Potential Transfer Portal Targets

Most likely lol, I had forgotten about all that... regardless could be a name that floats around at a position of need... even if Cox and some of our other talent (Butts, etc) are ready to go.

Zach Evans a former 5* RB recruit is transferring from TCU. Had a Mizzou offer and at one time had said MU was his dream school could be interesting to see where he ends up not saying he's necessarily a Mizzou lean now, but there was some history there and with the recent RB success (Roundtree, Badie) and a possible Luper connection i thought it was worth a mention.

^^ full interview here for those looking for it ^^

Didn't necessarily seem off base to me but maybe i am mixing up interviews lol.
Or Campbell out of ISU especially with the Big XII on the brink could imagine he'd be interested in fielding some calls haha.
