Try to take the emotion of the moment out of it and think big picture.

Upvote: I believe Barry Odom is the man for the job

Where’s the in between option?
I don’t think he’s in over his head, but don’t know yet if he’s the man for the job.

If they win the rest of the games and stay within 2 tds of Bama I'm for him 100%.

That better than any model had of the team before the season or going into the USCe game. Seems an odd standard for a team that’s never finished top 10 in recruiting in the SEC.

I just heard that 2 wide receiver was at the game! Two reliable ones! I do not blame Missouri for the lost. Missouri did play a lot better at South carolina thand the game played a year ago at home. I am telling you the rain also effected Missouri earlier. Too bad we just was not there yet to get the team to focus 100 percent. Give barry his due! Five years to get his recruits and get the defense and the offense in order. Anyone remember Kentucky? The head coach did not make bowl game the first year. Then it was like 7-5 for the last three years and this year looks like a better team and might get to 8 wins or more depends the rest of the way. They did play a lot better this year. Missouri did play a lot better this year. Beat Purdue at Purdue. Lost to South Carolina at SC by 2 points in a weather delay that messed up the situation. Missouri is playing better football than last year. Give the head coach time. If you do not give Barry Odom a chance then you are not a true missouri fan!

Every coach has a ceiling....sometimes that ceiling is D1 and sometimes it's D111....see Charlie Strong and to a degree Will Muschamp. Just bc you're D1 HC material doesn't mean you can coach at a big SEC school. I think BO is HC material but right now it appears to be at a lower level school.

Jury is still out tbh.

I really like some of the characteristics he has, and there are others that I don’t.

It all depends on whether he can iron out some kinks and his willingness to do something about the DC position

I gave a downvote only because that's the way it looks to me at this time.

But I'm also in the "too early to tell" crowd. In 3 weeks or so, we'll have a better idea.

But I asked myself: What is Barry doing that's very, very good? I'm struggling to find anything.

Who's job is it to call a timeout (had 3) in the 3rd qtr. and settle the team down and didn't???

It's frickin' football COMMON SENSE!

A veteran or half-arse HC would have been in the "mentally challenged OC's" ear yelling "Bound. The. F**king. Ball."

But Mizzou Nation has to just shut-up while being patient, loving, kind, content, pleasant, non-critical, super positive, meally mouthed, brain-dead, sucking on a bottle of MU kool-aid and wait for the frickin' training wheels to be removed from our HC whether that's 5 or 25 years. Please, please take all the time you need, oh dearest Head Coach Odom.

I'm sick of the rookie BULL SH*T! and lack of COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sick of the my stupid MELT after every stupid loss to our conference foes. If a neuro-surgeon could find the part of my little brain that contains that "love Mizzou" crap...I'd have it removed.

Disconnect the part of your thought process that says we have to win. At the end of the day it's 20 year olds playing with their balls for our entertainment. And say what you want about that game, it was entertaining. Or find something more interesting to do with your saturday

The win or die thing is kind of primal. Probably goes back to war and if your side losses there gonna be a whole lot of raping, looting, and killin goin on. Well that be going on anyway but the losers are not on the fun side of it. Does not bring out the best in people. Look at all the stories on the front page of the rant

I wouldn’t consider it an entertaining game to watch.

A shootout from start to finish? Fun. Two teams playing well.

A defensive battle with Ds torching QBs? Fun.

Watching a complete and utter 2nd half meltdown and a game littered with sloppy play, more TOs, and an inability to get key TOs?

Terrible. Watching Mizzou FB under Odom has become an unfun chore. They rarely play clean football. Rarely entertaining FB against even halfway decent teams.

Maybe if players were punished for putting the ball on the ground like Pinkel did, they’d learn to protect it like Witted did.

It ain't the losing that bothers me so much, hell, someone's got to lose. It's losing STUPID that I cannot abide.

Dammit, even winning stupid burns me. Purdue was a game won in spite of Odum. How many of you watched that game thinking "WTF?" nearly every drive, on both sides of the ball.

What did Pinkel do to punish players for fumbles and what is Odom not doing?

I’ve never heard either of those stories?

It’s not.
I don’t see much that he’s done from an administrative or strategic standpoint that makes me think he really grasps the job. But we’re not at the point that we can unequivocally say he’s in over his head.

I feel a little bad for him. He really hasn’t gotten any breaks. I don’t think anyone would’ve guessed Cross would be a complete whiff. And a couple things break his way in individual games and we’re probably not having this discussion.

Georgia his first year
MTSU
Kentucky last year
The monsoon at Scar

But that’s how life works. And it’s often not fair.

I agree with Bass. Except the feeling bad for BO.

He stepped into the toughest conference, and that's where "fair" goes out the window.

Let's say BO is gone after 3 years. During that time he'll have earned at least 7 million dollars. (and what is he? Early 40s?)

Then, he can at least pick up a DC job at a half-million/year or so.

Now I'd take no pleasure in him failing, but let's cut the bullshite, SEC FB is big business. And big business doesn't suffer poor performance from their leaders for very long.

Barry would have been a perfect coach for Memphis but not for Mizzou, especially coming off the heals of a great run by Pinkel.
