I have actually seen improvement. From 2015 through 2017 Mizzou was largely uncompetitive against P5 opponents that were at least average or better. Average is bowl eligible 6 or more wins.

This year Mizzou has a win at Purdue, a team I expect to be bowl eligible
Competitive loss to Georgia
Lost on a last second FG to USCe, if Hall is healthy that’s an easy win for Mizzou.

The defense still is full of players that are too young to be playing as many snaps as they are.
If BO can win 7-8 games this year, which I think is possible.
Do the same next season, also possible if he finds a QB to replace Lock. Then in his 5th season and beyond he should have some teams with enough talent and experience to compete for the upper half of the SEC on occasion and win 8 games in the other years.

The team is physically talented. Not top 5 or anything, but they are 15-25 range as far as physical ability imo.

These are mostly his players getting the playing time outside of some notable exceptions.

To have assembled a team this talented from the recruiting situation we are in is pretty damn good.

If we are to have a successful program we need to outperform our recruiting rankings and I think he’s shown a good ability to do that.

There are some other areas where it’s obviously not coming along at the pace we’d like and may never, but he’s got the #1 quality we need IMO.

There will be a decision to be made at the end of the year and he’ll have had a relatively fair shot. We’ll have a good idea of where things are trending at that point.

Not giving up yet but not endorsing either. He's got to beat a couple teams this year that have a pulse.

It's not dark days but it's not Pinkle days either. I think Barry will be a 6-8 wins a year type of guy. The days of being in contention for a divisional title every year is over for a while.

What did Pinkel do to punish players for fumbles and what is Odom not doing?

He benched them and it wasn't just for a few series. Usually took a few weeks to get out of the doghouse.

Pinkel won 5 games 2 of his last 4 seasons as a coach. Some of the problems this team has and the last 3 had to do with his recruiting after moving to the SEC. he would tell us that leaving Texas to recruit Florida and Georgia was a major miscalculation.

BO like any other Mizzou coach will need to win in order to have a shot at the higher rated Missouri recruits. It will probably take a few years of 6-8 wins to get enough local talent to have a shot at 10+ wins again.

He has a good job of putting his offensive staff together. The line consistently controls the point of attack attack and the RBs have become patient enough to let the creases develop. Lost in last weekend was the job that two true FR did blocking their positions. 5-6 yd runs don't turn into 15+ yd plays without solid blocking on the perimeter. Albert had his issues catching the rock but he didn't let it carry over when blocking his position. Davis, Ofodile, Finley, and Ford are putting a consistent product on the field that allows Dooley to call any play he wants to. Bottom line is that 35 points was enough to win the game.

I also like the work that Haley and Hargreaves have done with the front 7. The line overall has far more gap integrity and does a better job of keeping the LBs clean on power and split zone, which are staples in this conference.

Odom's career is going to come down to his decision with Walters. I was pretty meh when he was promoted as I didn't think he had done enough recruiting and developing his room to warrant being made a coordinator. Penton is the only player he has coached that has been an All Conference player and I don't think Walters did much in helping him get there. He wasn't capable of helping Cross install Read 2 and aside from a well schemed game vs Texas, his secondary has been beat like a hard on when teams have went at it in earnest.

Firing your friends is part of the job and Barry is going to have to find someone that can get these guys matching patterns and helping create stops.

Hell, we’ve got a team talented enough to win 10 games right now. We obviously aren’t going to get there but the personnel is in place if they played smart football

I disagree that there’s talent there to win 10 games. Outside of Beckner, Hall, Palmore and maybe Garrett none of the defensive players would start for any top half of the SEC defense.

Look at our schedule.

Outside of Georgia and Bama which teams can’t we beat?

There was enough talent here to win 10 games. We were clearly more talented than SC and honestly not that far off from Georgia. We’ll play one more team this year (after Bama) that may have a slight talent edge but it won’t be overwhelming.

USCe did not have better on the field talent than Mizzou. And outside of their RB speed and quickness, I didn't see a talent gap against UGA. In fact our 3 star OL did very well against their 4/5 star DL.

We will see the talent gap vs Bama, but everyone except about 5 teams does. Where I believe we get outplayed (and I hate to type this), is at QB.

He still has a winning record this year so far. I he doesn’t make a bowl then sure.

Odom can make a bowl and it still wouldn't be good enough. It depends on who he beats to get there. If it's the same story as last season with no wins for us to be proud of, no wins over a P5 team with a winning record, he needs to go.

I'm absolutely sick to my stomach watching Odom ball, which means losing to just about every single team we play at our level with a pulse. The one P5 team he beat with a winning record was in 2016, the year we went 4-8.

This schedule was tailor made for 10 wins.

I can’t recall a single instance where Pinkel benched a guy a few games for fumbling?

LINK

Tony got moved down the depth chart for fumbling. First example I could find.
