Avery wasn’t even his worst hire.

Coach Bryant handed him a fool-proof business. It’s not like he was Steve Jobs.
Battle will go down as one of the worst ADs we’ve ever had. Thank God he wasn’t tasked with finding Saban’s replacement.

Right place, at the right time. Signed Bear Bryant to a licensing agreement, then formed the company, then signed UA to same agreement, and several schools soon followed.
How he came up with the idea, I don't know. I would imagine his dad maybe had a hand in it since he was AD at Bham Southern for many years.

Battle is not now, nor has he ever been close to, being a billionaire.

Didnt our current AD give him the extension.

Not a billionaire but wealthy.
He's just an ex-jock who leveraged his Bama, Bryant, and UT connections to build a successful business that revolve college sports. Doesn't mean he was qualified to be AD

The man was a failure at every single thing he has touched other than his business which was given to him. The fact that the powers made him AD after Mal shows me that we haven't learned a damn thing from the dark years.

That’s a bit unfair. He was only ever brought in to be a temporary AD. That sort of scenario is always going to have a short list and someone with ties to the University. Now, he was a complete failure. But a great hire at AD was made afterwards with Byrne.

Sold his company in 2007 to IMG for over $100,000,000.
