Freedom is still valued in some places.

Tupelo Daily Journal

Good news is that now the Rt for Mississippi is down to 0.84 which means cases are falling. The lowest it has been in the entire pandemic is 0.82. Over 60% of Mississippians have now had natural infection. The Delta spike also had a much much lower death rate than the original strain.

I’m going to be honest, I’m surprised by this for state. Our AD and his wife are SUPER woke.

No real surprise here, we also led the way in allowing actual attendance for baseball as well.

Neither have vaccine requirements for students. Doubtful that this would even be Cohen’s decision

Both schools probably getting quite a bit of pressure from locals, as well. Can't speak to Oxford, but I know last year's decreased attendance was crippling for Starkville.

In Mississippi, employers can mandate employee vaccination against COVID-19.

"Matt Steffey, a law professor at the Mississippi College School of Law, likened the ability of businesses to require employees to be vaccinated to employers requiring job applicants to have a certain level of education and require proof of that education. A person has the constitutional right to forgo a college education, but they do not have the right to demand to be hired without a degree when a job requires it, Steffey said."

Interesting. I would guess by the way the state law is worded in Mississippi that mandated proof of vaccination will be a possibility this season.

That is a terrible analogy. A job may require some sort of skill or knowledge to be performed correctly, but no job requires you to be vaccinated to do it correctly.

It’s a pretty good analogy. You can’t discriminate in hiring based on protected classes like race or gender. Vaccination status, like having a college degree, is not a protected class.

They can't discriminate on religion either and technically, no religious exemption can be denied. If they deny you entrance because you have a religious exemption, whether or not they recognize it, that is discrimination against a protected class.

Not a great analogy since entering into an employment contract is very different than entering a public school's football stadium.

It would be a nightmare to check vaxx cards and they going to check IDs to verify vaxx card is for that person...

I can't imagine the logistic issues.

That’s not entirely correct. They can make laws of general applicability that doesn’t target a religion (e.g. prohibiting smoking of peyote even though peyote smoking is a religious ritual)
