So we need another reason to not replace Coleman?

I just assumed he meant Coleman 2.0 We would normally start off our weight room days with a lap or 2 around Coleman. Even 20 years ago at 5:30 am... it looked liked it needed to go.

I'm not big on a statue, but definitely in favor of a jersey/number retirement, ring of honor, hall of fame type thing.

I don’t like statues for players or retiring numbers but a ring of honor or a players hall of fame would be great

Rumor is they held secret KKK meetings at Coleman until the Wimp days. I believe it should be torn down

George Wallace was governor when they were building Coleman, therefore it must be destroyed.

Remember, Coleman isn't even named for a Bama great. Instead of a statue, do you think Hudson Coliseum would be appropriate? Or maybe some segment of the building be named for him? I'm not sure what to do for Wilbur in return.

I really like this idea - make it an Athletics hall of fame

Just spitballing here, but what would the criteria be? Limit every sport to 1 player every year? Every other year? Would individual/team awards be a requirement to be eligible?

I would be very happy for the build of the new Hudson-Newton Arena ("The Hud"), as well as the install of field turf to highlight the Wilbur Jackson Field unveiling.

I wonder if those things are still standing.

The Shaggy thread about them was one of the best. Maybe not UT Pimp quality, but damn close.

i really don't remember wendell hudson's playing time at bama. i have since seen numerous videos of his importance in breaking the color barrier at bama.

wilbur jackson on the other hand, was one of my favorite bama greats!

so i'm good with whatever they want to do to honor these men. but i also would be ok with them honoring the first black baseball, swimming, track n field, name the sport athlete in the same fashion.

I actually saw that they repainted this a generic uniform and put it in a grocery store or something super random?

I'm not sure - probably something pretty generic but that at least creates a high baseline, along with some flowery language that basically says "they were also good folks that are beloved".

I'd say the inaugural class includes 15 athletes from every sport we've had more than 20 years. 5 athletes from every sport we've had less than 20 years.

They both came in about the same time. And the speed in which our basketball and football teams changed for the better was like a sonic boom. Finally, we get the best athletes in the state and the entire decade of the 70s was a thing of beauty for our basketball and football success. I can't think of another decade that we were so feared in both sports at the same time.

Would be great, especially Hudson. What an absolute class act.
