I think it would be fantastic.

While you are at it, read this article about CM Newton from 2016.

I'm not big on a statue, but definitely in favor of a jersey/number retirement, ring of honor, hall of fame type thing.

Agree - like you mentioned before, having Hudson be the only jersey in the rafters is pretty special.

I'm also in favor of expanding it and adding more players. I'd like to see more jerseys or names prominently displayed. I'd also recommend adding a plaque for each player in prominent location at their respective stadium/arena that gives more context to why they are being honored.

Agree - I know we've always reveled in our "team bigger than the player" program history, but I do think it shortchanges our history somewhat in terms of what fans know about those older teams.

Growing up the son of 2 Bryant-era UA grads I knew all about the championships, the wins, etc.......but quite frankly I knew very little about the actual players on those teams outside of the few that were ultra famous. I don't want to start retiring numbers or anything, but having more places honoring them would be great. I love your idea of having it spread throughout the stadium.

Football gets the area around Denny Chimes. I just want the other sports to get the same level of respect. Doesn't have to be the same thing as putting their prints in cement, but do something to honor truly great or significant athletes.

For the record, I'm also 100% behind any of the individual colleges doing the same for regular students that leave and do something noteworthy.

Only if they get someone other than who did the Saban statue. We'd never live it down if something that was produced for these guys.

I think pville nailed it on the Rant thread "Maybe we can convince them to tear down the Saban statue so we can re-do it"

I'm all for it. We can add it right in front of a brand new basketball arena.

It's not quite in "WOAT College Statue" territory, but it isn't very good

The front steps of Coleman would be a good spot

For BDS maybe put Wilbur Jackson adjacent to the first Walk of Champions plaque that featured black players

I'm all for it if it was several years ago. If we did it now it would just look like we were pandering. Not saying I would be against it, just that I wish we did it a long time ago before all this controversial crap going on now in this country.

Who cares? It's still a good thing to do.

No, it would not look like we are pandering. It would simply be acknowledging that not enough has been done to recognize those trailblazers for their contribution to the University. I think it would be a great gesture.

I always loved watching highlights of Wilbur Jackson running, but it always puzzled me about his #80 in the backfield. Does anybody know why he had a WR jersey # playing HB in the wishbone? I was just a very young little boy when he was at Bama so while he's during my lifetime, he's at the outer edges of my memory.

If they're on board with it, sure. Just not statues. Player statues are too Auburnish. There are other appropriate ways to highlight individual accomplishments and contributions. I wouldn't want to do anything that would make them feel like part of a PR stunt though.
