Would never consider putting it on pork and haven’t met anybody that does either. To each their own but yea I would never consider it on a pork sammich. My personal favorite dish with white sauce is a loaded chicken baker (baked potato) doused in the white sauce.

I think I would give it a shot on wings.

was obviously close to Memphis during my time in Oxford
The barbecue situation in Ox is piss poor considering it’s barely an hour from Memphis. I know there’s a new ‘cue place where Rib Cage was, but it’s a chain out of Alabama. Lamar Lounge was good if you think paying $10 for a barbecue sandwich is acceptable. Handy Andy’s is solid, but mostly out of nostalgia and because it’s impossible to find a decent pork sandwich elsewhere in town. I don’t get why there isn’t an outpost of Central or at least Top’s in Oxford though. The other Memphis restaurants have done well for the most part, and th barbecuee competition is nearly nonexistent
I’ve put Big Bob’s Alabama white on smoked wings and it was actually great. It’s a good chicken sauce. To put it on pork is barbaric

If ever in Birmingham, stop by Saws for the smoked wings and white sauce. Can’t go wrong.

Saws is solid. Had it multiple times.
ETA: a personal favorite of mine is Fox Bros in ATL. Extremely good IMO.

Since Memphis BBQ is tops, who should we give that to? Vandy is the closest in-state, but Ole Miss is the closest.

Western NC is the best but it bleeds down into SC and GA.
I grew up in Western NC and can't disagree with this stongly enough. I used to travele most of the state for work, and mist really good BBQ joints in NC are east of Raleigh with a few exceptions near Lexington, NC.

The old East vs West NC bbq.The debate's been going on for decades
I prefer the western style as well.

not directly on pork, but a pork sandwich with red sauce topped with slaw with some white sauce is very good.

Not to be a sticker for details. but look at a map. Lexington NC is NOT in western NC. It's firmly in the piedmont. The do make good BBQ, but just because it's west on the coastal plain doesn't mean it's western.
BTW, even living where I do, we still have a subscription to Our State.

WE tell the tourists to go to dreamland while everyone in the know goes to archibalds smokehouse
I'd bat this is true.......there ain't any way Dreamland is staying in business with repeat customers. I'll give Archibalds a try next time I'm in the area!
