Maybe bringing in extra cash to pay Freddie?
It is odd, in that the Braves were one of the few teams to have ownership/control of their full minor league system.
I got an email from Gwinnett announcing that they were now a part of Diamond Baseball Holdings, but that everything would stay the same (Braves affiliate, stay in Gwinnett, etc.).

Don't know about that.
Minor leagues are usually money losers and the parent club is on the hook for all salaries.
Probably shoulda dumped em a while

I was thinking more like maybe just getting some liquid funds to give Freddie a solid deal with a good amount of a Signing Bonus

Saw something that mentioned that MLB clubs are more likely to begin doing this now.
Formerly, clubs bought minor league teams in an effort to secure their farm systems and guarantee that the teams would still be in place years down the line. A measure to limit volatility and turnover since MiLB teams have $$$ issues.
With recent developments in the league looking out for the MiLB teams now, MLB clubs will look to dump those costs from their books because the league is now putting structures in place that promise the same stability in the minors, without the team having to bear the cost.

Can tell you some in Rome aren’t happy as that stadium was ONLY built because the Braves owned the team. The agreements to keep funding that stadium was built on that commitment.
The philosophy of moving all the minor league teams closer was a big change over the last 20 years.
I get financially why this makes sense for them with the way talent is now being developed internationally and at the college level.
Also get why MLB had to so something with so many teams having failing minor league programs.
The idea the teams will be owned by a private company and staff works for that company but not much will change is takeover BS. Off course things change and expectations will be very different.
