I say yes.

But we are replacing with 2 and 3 stars as well (stetson and jackson).

Kirby identifies and coaches up talent better than anyone in the country.

The depth and playing lots of guys thing has to help recruiting while still feeding egos and letting talent emerge. Also better prepared for injury.

Heard it used as a sales tool that getting key playing time but not having to be in all the time reduces injury risk.

Just can’t have tons of teams going with UTk speedy offense.

TBH..don’t think it is good for college football to see how fast an offense can move to keep substitutions.

I stepped foot on campus in 1964. This defense reminds me so much of Erk Russells Junkyard Dogs. Here's what Erk said about his defense and I think it perfectly describes what we are seeing today.

From the American Football Coaches Association's Defensive Football Strategies, the chapter penned by Erk defines the Junkyard Dawgs, "By our own definition, a Junkyard Dog is a dog completely dedicated to his task, that of defending his goal line."

Depending on whose analysis you look at, UGA is either #2 or #1 in the cumulative "last 5 years" recruiting rankings. (Alabama and UGA are very close either way).

After that...Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M.

We're really seeing the fruits of this level of sustained recruiting.

Looking around even at the potential playoff teams, even the closest to UGA in talent and depth (Alabama and Ohio State) have some flaws this year. Alabama in particular seems "off" from their usual level of play. Perhaps Saban losing his edge?

Meanwhile, Oklahoma got exposed...yeah, they're good but losing to Baylor at this point in the season...c'mon.

Meanwhile, Oregon? No...losing to Stanford early on took away a good bit of credibility.

Cincinnati? They have a few really great players and they've been well coached to exceed expectations but seriously, look at who they've played this year.

Ohio State? Yeah but...what does it mean that they lost to...Oregon? (And OSU still has some challenges with Michigan State and Michigan so we'll know more about them by season end)

In a "normal" year, you could probably identify the two or three scary teams we might face in the playoffs...

But this year feels like the football gods have conspired in UGA's favor. Not only is UGA at the top tier of talent and depth but even the best challengers seem flawed. Maybe somebody up there got tired of hearing about the 40 years.

A moron? I wouldn't say that. But he was too stubborn to let a future NFL starter play meaningful snaps or do much other than come in for obvious running situations...hence encouraging said player to make him look like a goober (while his chosen guy dropped in efficiency the next season and won nothing).

Otherwise, he's done a wonderful job of recruiting so well that we're able to win with very average QB talent. And we've got 5-star QBs in the pipeline, so even that will be rectified soon enough.

P.S. I do think he needs a new hair stylist.

It was made clear to Tebow that he was "the" guy for 2007 - and he was.

That wasn't the case with Fields. Smart made it clear to Fields that he would be carrying a clip board for two years rather than getting a legitimate shot at the job for season 2...which is what Smart does. It's his conservative style, risk aversion, and loyalty to certain types of players.
