Hawgeye take…post settling down

First…it was great to be back in Razorback Stadium and to see all the tailgating, fans, kids, cheerleaders, band, etc. I’m over Covid and it can fly a damn kite.
A win is a win, right? Wrong.
1) Kendal Briles…I’m about done with him. He has a few moments last year that pissed me off and it continued today. His player selection is questionable at best and his play calling is not good 70% of the time. I’m over him and hope we move on. He has a lot of making up to do for me to get back on his bus.
2) Please let KJ roll out and stop trying to make him a pocket passer. It’s not him. He is at his best running and rolling out.
3) Rocket Sanders should get 50% of the carries going forward. I love Treylon Smith, but he is too small to be an every down back.
4) What in the ever living hell is going on at WR? 5-6 drops that hit us in the hands today that I can remember.
5) Treylon Burke’s had no business playing today
6) Our defense is legit.
7) Screw the damn targeting penalty. Get rid of it. What’s the point in reviewing the call if it’s still gonna stay a shitty call.
8) Our fans are worn out. The place cleared out pretty good at the half, and I can’t blame them.
9) OL was kind of disappointing. I expect much better out of a Pittman coached team.
10) I hate referees.
11) Wrights BBQ is a great addition to concession options in south end zone.
12) There’s a damn in stadium coach on the row behind me and two seats over. If he is in fact a season ticket holder, I may drunk punch him before the year is over.

I’m hoping the play calling was an issue of briles trying to be cute and save too much stuff for Texas. If everyone watching the game can tell kj needs to be used as a runner more than a passer, surely briles sees it too. And once treylon is back 100% our offense will be way better. You can tell he. Wasn’t a major part of the gameplan like he usually is

Briles entire second half was negated for me due to calling 3 consecutive run options inside the 20 and settling for a FG. Also the stupid arse QB sneak on 4th and over 1 yard that we didn’t convert at damn near midfield.
You’ve got a 220+ pound back, give it to him on 4th and 20 inches.

Worst play call of the day.
QB sneak on 4th and 2, not to mention we’re a shotgun offense and we telegraphed the play when we lined up under center. Everyone in the stadium knew what we were running.
I know many will probably apologize for Briles, but he called a terrible game today. Becoming fairly apparent that Franks covered a lot of the play calling issues last year.

Wasn't briles best day. I do like his offense though. We just need to get it clicking regularly. We shoot ourselves in our own foot way too often.

It would look much better if we had ran KJ more. Every time we did it seemed like something good happened. But I get not wanting to run him a lot against Rice.

Yep only chance of beating Texas will be to get the option game clicking early and work in some pass plays off of that. I'm not completely giving up on KJ being able to get it done at QB, but I learned today it definitely isn't going to happen from him sitting in the pocket

What we saw today was either A. Briles not understanding what he’s working with and being a bad OC or B. Him trying to protect/hide what kj does well and work on what he doesn’t against what he thought was a cupcake which would make him not necessarily bad just arrogant and young. I’m hoping it was the latter because there was a lot that I saw last year that I liked and hopefully it wasn’t just a fluke or because of Frank’s

I’ve been watching the 2nd half and it looks like BLJ has made a nice mesh between concepts he learned from Bielema/Enos and Morris/Traylor. They just had a borderline erotic 9 play drive in two TE pistol sets the whole time and just overpowered Illinois at the line. Reminded me of how we salted away LSU in 2010 on that last drive.

Im off the Briles train now. Too much window dressing, the QB hardly ever keeps on the RPO, the stupid QB sneak on 4th and 2.
