Arky had some entertaining teams back in the day and Matt Jones was a beast. Also, loved myself George Wilson. Got to meet him for the Lions before making a nice career for the Bills.

Dude ran like a giraffe on cocaine.

Actual deceptive speed. He looked like he was out for a casual jog while pulling away from every player on the field.

Matt jones, Darren mcfadden, felix jones, payton hillis. Best backfield I have ever seen. Imo best backfield ever. Everyone knew what was coming and everyone couldn't do shite to stop it. Houston nut was good back in those days

Matt Jones was different than Tebow. Jones was big but he was blazing fast. He was a bigger version of Eric Crouch or Tommie Frazier on a much worse team.
If he was playing today when the spread offense was embraced instead of in the early 2000s, he would be a Heisman candidate. Arkansas got really unlucky missing out by one year on having him, McFadden, Hillis, and Felix Jones in the same backfield.
Watching Jones eviscerate Texas in 2003 was eye opening. That game had to be really fun for Arkansas fans.

Matt Jones was a freak athlete BEAST. Unstoppable... he ran the fastest QB 40 time ever at the NFL combine. (4.37). He tore it up as WR in the NFL until the drugs derailed him. I would pick Jones over Michael Vick. The only comparable College QB in my book is Cam.

I remember thinking how silly he made defenders look trying to catch him!
I wanted the Jaguars to draft him... shame he couldn’t keep himself out of trouble to have a good career.

I remember him being arrested for cocaine.
As an athlete he was definitely a talent.

I was living in Little Rock during his playing years and as an LSU fan he drove me crazy. I think LSU did the best job of containing him but defenses would totally misjudge his speed. He was fun to watch.

Nice. A lot of very average Matt Jones highlights before the interwebs. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/casty.gif)

Matt Jones was a far better runner than Tim Tebow. Neither one could throw very well, but I bet Jones would even get the nod on being able to throw the ball as well. Difference is one played for a great coach and one played for a dumb arse. If Jones had played for Urban Meyer he would have won multiple Heismans, imo.

Watching him was one of the biggest reasons I became a Hog fan. My family moved us from California (thank God) and my step dad starting following the Hogs because of our neighbor. Then Matt Jones did his thing and the rest is history.

I remember him being hard to tackle.
