Well I have no issue with that.. even though I think it would be better if the money went Low Income.. not just Black.. why can’t it be used to help who needs help??

The coaches deserve to make what the market can bear.. imo.

South Carolina baseball lost 1.6 M winning back to back titles... should they be cut?

I thought College Baseball was break-even

Is the $1.6 million losses due to some short term accounting adjustments or does College Baseball lose $1.6 million every year?

One thing is for certain, if baseball Teams are losing $1.6 Million each yr then these guys in FB & MBB are even MORE VALUABLE than I originally thought

You convinced me - larger Stipends for FB & MBB!

Endorsements are cool, but keeping the system the way it is and giving them a bigger Stipend is the easiest way in my opinion

That isnt what they're demanding though.

And if that’s how players feel the. They need to be speaking with their legislators about getting title ix rules changed. Not college administrators.

Because this isn't about fairness or equality.

From their demands:

Because NCAA sports exploit college athletes physically, economically and academically, and also disproportionately harm Black college athletes, #WeAreUnited.
In rejecting the NCAA’s claim that #BlackLivesMatter while also systematically exploiting Black athletes nationwide, #WeAreUnited.

I was never “paid” for all that time and I easily spent 40+ hours a week on that work for the two years it took to obtain a Masters degree

The stipend was the "pay" and your activities didn't gross $50 million in TV-Radio Money each year

Folks that bring up my work study job and my TA & GA Days need to realize that their situations don't relate to this situation

If you had grossed $50 million in TV-Radio Money each yr you were in Grad school, then I would be on this site arguing for you to get a larger Stipend

surely you understand basic negotiating tactics?

This is not basic negotiating tactics. when people get a ridiculous lowball offer they dont offer a counter, they tell you to go f*ck yourself, and they are completely justified.

here's some home work for you. go to a pawnshop and ask for 500,000 for your laptop. let us know what happens. don't worry about how to post, you'll still have your laptop.

No one expects to get everything in their initial ask

Give them larger stipends and all the rest of that hooey goes away

Have to be 2 years removed from high school

3 years removed from HS. That is why you never see true sophomores declaring for the NFL draft. I personally am friends with two former NFL players. Trust me, 18 year old players aren't ready for the grind. Players who don't get a chance to develop in college first would get chewed up and spit out of the league. People who claim that HS graduates could make it in the NFL, don't have a clue.

No one player individually grossed 50 million.

But all of the research assistants working contributed to tens of millions of dollars in patents and research that they sell to fortune 500 companies.

Well in this case it was 800k per year. But they went back to back.. most Baseball teams operate at a huge loss... there are outliers.. LSU , etc

Only one true sophomore has ever been draft eligible.

Larry Fitzgerald went to a prep school for a year prior to his freshman year at Pitt.

No other sports will ever exist in college except football or men's basketball, it's that simple. Almost no other sports for any university is in the green and they cant force it to be that way if people arent going to the games and there's little to no tv money involved in it.

My only point is that if FB & MBB are "forced to subsidize" those Money losing welfare sports, then keep them if you can but to balance the system and make it more fair simply give FB & MBB a larger Stipend on top of the full scholly

It is the easiest way to to do things, had things been done preemptively because it was the right thing to do, then this Pac12 nonsense would have never taken place

So let’s get rid of all teams not making money...

by the way. Ga Tech operates at 9M in the red last year..

Only the Football team and women’s basketball teams made or covered their expenses.

The entire issue with the premise of making demands like this is that the players need the universities more than the universities need the individual players.

There will always be players.

Yep if I were advising universities I would tell them offer players the ability to get endorsements and if that’s not enough for them then start tightening the belt and call the players bluffs. It might hurt for a couple of years but despite what people think universities hold all the power here. There is no other option for a high level football player that is better than college football and there likely never will be. Universities have built in fans that a minor league league never will have.

Baseball has Radio & TV Money in the P5 so I was under the impression that it was a break-even Sport given the fact that they only fund 11.7 schollies per Team

There's no way women's basketball at GT covered expenses.

UConn wasn't even doing it most years in their prime.

Which made him 3 years removed from HS.
