Members of the Ole Miss football team expressed their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and called for changes to continue on campus in a video posted on social media.
Ole Miss defensive end Ryder Anderson was one of several players to appear in the video, which praised school officials for working with the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning to approve the removal of a Confederate statue from its current location near the university's administration building.
"This allows all the students faculty, staff and fans of the University of Mississippi to enjoy our beautiful campus without having to see a symbol of slavery, racism, hate and oppression," one player says.
The statue was erected in 1906, more than 40 years after the end of the Civil War. Students had first passed a resolution last year calling for the removal, and the IHL board voted to approve the school's request on Thursday.
In the video, the players requested approval by the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors of the plan to relocate the statue to a cemetery in a remote part of campus.
"We can't be complacent with progress made thus far," another player says. "We must continue to move forward in our journey towards equality."
The video concludes with each player repeating the phrase, "Together we can."

Yet, it didn't stop them from going to Ole Miss in the first place?

Don't people buy houses and then remodel the Kitchen or the Basement?
I guess you could tell them, it didn't stop you from buying the house?

Yes...a unilateral decision on the part of the homeowner. But what if you don't like the name of the neighborhood but chose to move in any way and then demand change. Should you now complain about it?

Most OM alumni, students, and faculty have been ok with having that statue relocated to the cemetery for a while. The corrupt arse board who approves these things is just now getting off their arse.

BLM the organization is nothing but a fundraising scheme for communist political candidates.

I'm not surprised Ole Miss would be upset someone wants to remove their participation trophy from the campus.

There is a place on campus that is actually appropriate for that statue: The Confederate cemetery. Put it there and it will also appropriately symbolize the death of the Confederacy. Should have done that years ago.

Could be wrong but I think there are also Union soldiers buried in the cemetery. Either ole miss has been extremely slow to do the bare minimum for years. Incredible how people cling to something that didn’t last as long as most undergrad terms at Ole Miss but we do have a loser mentality so

Pretty sure you're right. All soldiers received treatment for wounds there. Not just confederate. I believe all those who died there after Shiloh were buried in same field

BLM demands the Confederate cemetery be moved and all graves pissed on. A giant statue of Oprah then must be erected in its place. Comply or they will burn down the campus in the name of inclusion.

They all sound the same. They speak the same words over and over. We have some well trained robots.
