Fauci: Test all the players before the game. Infected? Sorry, you’re sidelined.

Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told Peter King of NBC’s Football Morning in America that widespread testing of players would be the first step, and the obvious acknowledgement that any player who tests positive has to be quarantined because of how rapidly it would spread in an athletic environment.
“Sweat does not do it,” Fauci said. “This is a respiratory virus, so it’s going to be spread by shedding virus. The problem with virus shedding is that if I have it in my nasal pharynx, and it sheds and I wipe my hand against my nose—now it’s on my hand. You see, then I touch my chest or my thigh, then it’s on my chest or my thigh for at least a few hours. Sweat as such won’t transmit it. But if people are in such close contact as football players are on every single play, then that’s the perfect set up for spreading. I would think that if there is an infected football player on the field—a middle linebacker, a tackle, whoever it is it—as soon as they hit the next guy, the chances are that they will be shedding virus all over that person.
“If you really want to be in a situation where you want to be absolutely certain, you’d test all the players before the game. And you say, Those who are infected: Sorry, you’re sidelined. Those who are free: Get in there and play.”
“To be 100 percent sure, you’ve got to test every day. But that’s not practical and that’s never going to happen. But you can diminish dramatically by testing everybody Saturday night, Sunday morning, and say OK, only negative players play.”

What isn’t the perfect set up for spreading according to this guy?

He's not wrong. It sucks but this will be an issue for at least the first year until we reach herd immunity.

That will add a whole new dimension for gamblers!

Locker rooms and airlines (our team flies to every game; I’m sure most of yours do too) are the main repositories for funk.
These tests at a single moment in time are kinda worthless.

Just have to send corona hookers to the opposing team’s QB the night before the game.
Edit. If UGA is playing bama I’m sending them to the backup QB.

Sure.
I just meant recycled air is the kiss of death for staying healthy during an outbreak of anything (e.g., common cold).
It’ll be something to consider.

This is what makes no sense. If you are going to do this, why would you not test the players for all sort of other viruses and diseases before every game?
It makes no sense we only care about the players getting one specific virus, and not others

Usually he is it seems like.
Also not sure where or why he would have any authority in this situation.

Sounds like a plan to me. Have him start drawing up the specifics and logistics now so we can play in September.

Well if I understand what he is saying correctly, and I think I do, he's saying test football players before the game and if they are positive they get held out. Otherwise play ball.
Why are so many people on here having a fainting spell over that? The man just handed us a roadmap to have football this fall. Treat it like concussion protocol. Take two weeks off and come back.
