If this is what it takes to get football this fall, then so be it

Testing player 1 day a week is just a feel good measure. All of the testing "measures" are simply to make people "feel safe"

If thats what it takes for irrational people to let the world move on, so be it.

Doubtful.

It's likely the true mortality rate is only two or three times that of the flu.
I assume your argument for this point is that case numbers have been underreported due to lack of testing, and if everyone who had it actually was reported, the mortality rate would drop by a huge degree

But do cases of the flu not go unreported? How do you explain the huge difference in hospitalization rate between the two?

No doubt, it’s common sense. You’re sick so you’re a walking cootie therefore you don’t play.

Its relatively in line with the flu and viral pneumonia. So why not test those as well?

Also with measles and mumps now appearing on college campuses again, why are we not testing for that? Those are roughly 9 times more contagious than coronavirus

I was thinking that the head of infectious diseases is the guy you want to ask questions on how to fix and cure things. I sure as hell wouldn't argue with him over the details in fighting a virus and shite. I would be mouth shut with open ears.

That doesn't make him an authority on what public policy should be. It's probably the last person you want making such decisions because his goal is the least amount of deaths by the disease, while public policy has many other factors involved.

Shutdowns and all these other measures have other consequences that need to be factored in. He is in no way qualified to be the person making those decisions.

Damn right I will 100% question him when it's things outside his field of expertise.

They use a different formula for the flu in which those things are estimated.

If you do the same thing with the coronavirus, the number drops to probably around 0.25% and 0.5%.

I've tried pointing this out for months.

Not sure, I haven't really seen much talk about it.

That would mean your problem is actually with President Trump, the person who actually holds executive power and could fire Fauci anytime he wanted instead of repeatedly putting him on TV and touting his expertise as something to be taken seriously.

If you think Trump has bungled the corona virus situation, it's ok to say so. You don't have to pretend to be mad at an advisor instead of the man in charge.

Well if I understand what he is saying correctly, and I think I do, he's saying test football players before the game and if they are positive they get held out. Otherwise play ball.

Why are so many people on here having a fainting spell over that? The man just handed us a roadmap to have football this fall. Treat it like concussion protocol. Take two weeks off and come back.

Because there are certain people hell bent on this entire thing being a conspiracy. It’s frickin nuts. These people are likely frequent Q thread posters as well who really lean in on this ridiculous shite because their own lives are uninteresting.

I saw someone post this explanation elsewhere and it sums it up nicely

quote:

Conspiracy theories help people make sense of things they otherwise have a hard time coming to terms with and to feel in control of situations they otherwise have no sway over. It’s not surprising that a global pandemic makes people turn to them. Same thing happened in 1918 - some thought the Spanish flu was a German biological weapon

Some people simply can't comprehend or don't want to accept the randomness of the universe

You realize that...there is no playoff to determine the "top infectious disease expert" It's not like he had to beat out 63 other Drs to get that title. He is an expert in infectious diseases but one that applied for a govt job 30 yrs ago.
