Not a chance. May is basically 4 weeks away. Cases and deaths are still rising and will likely continue to rise for another 3-4 weeks until hopefully we see them start flattening in late April/early May due to quarantining. Then it will probably take another 4 weeks for that to actually get to a level where governors feel comfortable to say people can come out of quarantine, and even then, I think most will err on the side of caution and take longer because there's still no vaccine, so as soon as everyone gets back out, it could spike again.

I think people don't realize how long this virus takes to run it's course. I believe the avg time to show symptoms is about 5 days, but it takes some upwards of 10+ days. First hand accounts from people I know that have had it(sister in law and neighbor down the street) have both taken over 14 days for the virus to completely run it's course - about 17 days and 25 respectively, so let's say it's an average of 3 weeks from start to finish for a healthy person. It can easily take at least 3-4 weeks from onset to end for someone to get over this.

I think late July or August is probably more likely for a "back up and running" scenario.

I wouldn't call them flawed, just they fluctuate wildly based on updated inputs.

Think about the modelling for a hurricane. They can give you a fairly precise forecast for where it will be in 24 hours, but a wide cone for where it will be in 3-5 days. As more data comes in, and those 3-5 days get closer in time, the more accurate it will be for that point in time, but the next 3 to 5 days are a wider cone.

The same thing is happening with these models. They a re projecting one thing, and then as more data comes in, the models can ingest that and the numbers go up or down as the algorithms are able to fine tune.

Also, more states have issued stay at home orders, which makes a major change in the datasets that come in; it's like throwing an unexpected high pressure system into the path of a hurricane - you now have a whole lot of new data that the models weren't factoring in. If this new outlier had been there, the models may have been more accurate, but now they have to factor in a major new change.
