Cannon Motors, the infamous lender of vehicles and payer of cash to Ole Miss players, came through for an MSU fan caught in a weird situation.

An MSU fan hit a half court shot for $5000 at a recent basketball game. The insurance company that pays out this sort of thing denied it because 1 inch of his plant foot was over the line.

Cannon Motors came through and paid the guy the full $5k.

In bball the shot would've counted as a 2 instead of 3 if he was on the line, why would this be looked at differently?

Well they're an insurance company so I dont know why you would expect any kind of decency out of them.

It's in the contract. How can you be mad at an insurance company for following what is in the contract?

If you buy a 10 year term policy and die 10 years and 1 day later, are they assholes for not paying out?

From an insurance company perspective , $5000 buys a ton of Goodwill, but they chose to let it buy a ton of bad will instead.

$5000 is peanuts and they likely lost a customer for life in the school.

I had not heard about it until today and I guarantee that nobody will remember this in a week.

Not sure of new rules for Bball but, half court shot is pretty much always a THREE pointer.

Insurance companies definitely have this rep for a reason, but this is pretty basic. It’s a contract and that was a condition.

Do we get mad at refs for not just giving other teams the TD even when they were only 1 inch out of bounds running down the sideline?

Contract conditions don't have to be strictly adhered to. Plenty of commercial reasons to not be such a stickler.

This sounds like a promotional deal which makes the decision by the Ins. co. extremely petty.

Who is the company we are all referencing btw?

Insurance companies get bad raps because of stupid people. It either covered or its not. Easy concept.

Insurance was designed to be their for you when something horrible happens. Fires/Floods/Tornados/Death/Accidents. But yeah they are just horrible smh........

Was a signed policy/contract in place?

If so was it between the insuring company and the univ? Between the univ. and participant? Between the ins. co. and the participant?

Was this some ABC Ins. Co. promotional deal?

Canon Motors or the University was gonna pay off the kid. Both were getting killed in the social media. The contest was with Leerfield/IMG and Canon Motors. With that small amount there was little reason to self insure unless Leerfied does this with all of their schools and were vulnerable with multiple winners.

Henry, it's obvious that you're not discussing this with any business people. Naivety is running rampant around here!
