That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

What’s crazy about Troy is two other times we barely escaped with a win. We were bound to drop one at some point and I don’t know why we kept scheduling them

The largest deficit overcame by an LSU team was against Troy.

Should put UGA vs Nichols on there. Even though UGA technically won, but they almost lost to freaking Nichols. Final score was 26-24.

Consensus should be:

Maine over Mississippi State
Citadel over South Carolina
Citadel over Arkansas
USL over Texas A&M

Its one of those four.

I'd throw USL out - they are at least a FBS team and that game was on the road.

Highlights from the other three:

The 1992 Arkansas loss to Citadel 10-7 in their new start in the SEC resulted in the immediate firing of the coach. That's harsh. Citadel was 11-2 that season though

The Citadel win over South Carolina was an average Citadel team (finished 9-4) but they scored 23 points and gained 400 yards.

The 2004 MSU loss to Maine - that was a 5-6 Maine team. State dominated the game statistically, but turnovers killed them and they lost 9-7.

The Arkansas team was the best of the three. SC was 3-9, State was 3-8, Arkansas was 3-7-1 with wins over No. 4 Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina and a tie to Auburn. State went on and upset Florida later that season. The SC-Citadel game was at the end of the season.

State's loss was to the worst team. Arkansas' loss was at the worst time, but I think the Citadel-South Carolina game is the worst, looking at all the details.

Man, talk about dodging a bullet there. Nichols went 5-6 and two of those wins were in overtime.

Legion Field in 2000----Southern Miss beat Alabama 21-0 and I sat through that entire fiasco. The score did not indicate how badly USM demolished Alabama. Never been that embarrassed leaving a game.

In 1981, 2nd ranked and eventual SEC co-champion (tied with UGA at 8-0 in conference) Alabama lost to Georgia Tech.

The game was Alabama's only regular season loss. It was Georgia Tech's only win.
Was just coming to post this.

To put it in historical context: other than this game, Bama’s record from 1977 through 1981 was 55-5-1 (a .902 winning percentage).

Tech was in the middle of a stretch in which they won 5 times in 35 tries (a winning percentage of .143).

It's even worse when you consider who those other 5 losses were to (rankings are end of season AP).

#12 Nebraska 31-24
#3 USC 24-14
#7 Notre Dame 7-0
#17 Mississippi State 6-3
#2 Texas 14-12

Thank goodness tRant didn't exist in 1981.

The Troy loss wasn't really that tough for me. In a way it was sort of amusing- similar to Stoney Brook coming to Alex Box and knocking off LSU in the super regional. Made me strangely happy for those kids for pulling off the impossible.

The ones that piss me off the most are the 2 losses to Notre Dame in 2014 and 2017

The Citadel loss was the death knell of the amazing run Arkansas had from the 60s to the late 80s. While we had some off years during that run, for 30 years Arkansas was a perennially ranked top 25 team with a lot of top 10 finishes.

Broyles took over a rebuilt Arkansas team. He passed the torch to Lou Holtz (who he eventually ran off) who then passed the torch to Ken Hatfield (who Broyles also ran off). It was the end of the Golden Age of Arkansas football and the man that did the most to bring it about was the man who did the most to end it.

I think the USM 21-0 win over Alabama, which I remember watching, was the single worst Alabama game I've ever seen. That having been said the complete WTF game Bama had against GT in '81 might be the worst in terms of how did this happen?

The Troy loss for LSU or the Holy Toledo game for Arkansas don't look that bad in hindsight because both Troy and Toledo had really good teams those years.

Game recap

A&M has 8 turnovers and loses to SWLA 29-22.
2 interceptions and 1 fumble returned for TDs.

A&m would win the return trip game the next year 66-0.

Colorado State 17, LSU 14

Even though I was only 7 years old, I remember sitting in Tiger Stadium wondering why we lost to a school I had never heard of.

I know there were worse teams that beat SEC teams over the years, mid majors and FCS schools, etc. But a shitty Indiana team beating Mizzou was embarrassing because Mizzou actually played in the SEC title game.

I didnt read everything so sorry if mentioned, but the one this year where Arky lost to WKU is the worst one.

Almost all of these were close upsets. Arky got destroyed by WKU.
