Southern Miss was 0-12 in 2012 and averaged 19.7 ppg., which was the 112th ranked offense out of 124.

Monken took over in 2013.

By 2015, Monken had Southern Miss go 9-5 and averaging 39.9 ppg, which was ranked 13th in the nation.

This got him hired as the Tampa Bay Bucs OC and WR's coach.

He runs an Air Coryell true spread offense, using the pass to open the run. Which is a stark difference from what UGA has been doing for ages.

This is an awesome move by Kirby.

This is a huge step in the right direction and shows Kirby isn't too stubborn to change.

Listening to Monken speak, he obviously has a head full of knowledge about how to structure an efficient passing game. That's what we were missing last season IMO in games, but obviously in practice too. You could see it as far back as the spring game. One thing that really excites me about this is our pass defense, which was the weak point in a very strong defense. Our DB's will get a real education this offseason and I expect the defensive staff will learn from Coach Monken's perspective. With the talent we have in the secondary, I can't see how this won't make our defense even better in 2019.

WOW! I didn't think Smart would make him the OC and demote Coley, if that is the case. All credit to Kirby, doing what it takes.

Just waking up to this news in Maui. This is fantastic. I shat all over Coley from the jump and got chastised for it. 2020 is going to be a great year.

Thank goodness Kirby realized Coley wasn't a good fit as our OC. Monken is a good hire.

Biggest beneficiaries:

James Cook & DRob

Cook will get his opportunities in space and he'll finally get a chance to shine.

If we really stretch the field consistently D-Rob will have every chance to return to form.

So looking forward to it.

Very psyched about what this means about our Head Coach.

He never stops working. He has a plan. He isn't standing still with his fingers crossed hoping good things happen without making changes.

And I love how the team played for him in the Sugar Bowl. I honestly don't think any team in memory had to play such a high profile game lacking the amount of starters/playmakers we were missing. And they flat out kicked @ss. It wasn't close.

The fact that CKS has built that kind of depth, and had them ready to play like that, is unprecedented for the Georgia football program, and maybe any program.

Probably super late on realizing this but I just made a connection. Monken was coaching Fitzpatrick when he was putting up otherworldly numbers after being a career second stringer and journeyman. He had those 3 games in a row with over 400 yards passing.
