Prayers for the Majors family, no stranger to tragedy. Here is another...Johnny Majors' great niece, Tessa Majors, was stabbed and killed while walking through a park in New York Wednesday night. She was an 18-year old Freshman at Barnard College. Tessa's father, Inman Majors is a professor at James Madison and graduated from Vandy and has a masters from Bama.

Very sad to hear this. Rest easy young lady. NYC, for all of its gentrification, still should be looked upon with guarded optimism when you are perusing through the city. The crime numbers have actually improved over the years. However, like anything else, the bigger the population, the bigger the chances of crossing paths with a criminal element.

You have to know where you are like any city, and because it's so big you can get away without ever going to the bad areas because they're so spread out.

For example where I live (Tribeca) you're not going to get this. Of course you're also paying a lot more to live there.

Up where Barnard is I don't believe is very nice.
It's near Washington Heights.

I always feel safe in NY but it's where I am.
I work in midtown east, I live in Tribeca, hangout on the Upper East Side, MTE, FIDI, Battery Park City, Brooklyn Heights etc.

It's not like I'm going around the LES or Harlem looking for fun.

I read the article and I noticed the location of West 116th Morningside. That is on the edge of Harlem. While they had made improvements and gentrified the area, that is still not the best side of town. Even long time residents there said they would never go through that side of town, especially at night. I feel deeply saddened for her and the Majors family. She probably was like any other young person from other parts. Innocently thinking that she can view the city’s different parks scenery and then that shite happens.

My wife’s good friend used to live in Flatbush Brooklyn in the late 1990’s/early 2000. That area has priced out any middle income earners now.
