It just makes the most sense, yes there always be people who compalin and there will be controversy but with 8 there's far less.

Just look at this possibility

12-1 LSU (loss SECCG vs Georgia)
12-1 Minnesota (loss B1GCG vs Ohio State)
13-0 Baylor

Now you could say well of course Baylor they won their conference. However the playoffs are supposed to be the four best teams and that means no invisible rules.

Do we really think Baylor is better then LSU? At the same time how can you leave an undefeated team out? An 8 team playoff solves a good portion of this.

Also finally make the first round home games for the higher seeds so the final weeks are still meaningful

Agree, all power 5 conference have a team, plus the Group of 5 like Central Florida has the right to get their arse beat again every year

If they’d ever hypothetically go to an eight-team playoff, then they need to place an emphasis on conference championships. So now, under the new hypothetical situation, Power 5 Conference Champs automatically make it in, then the best of the rest. However, I recognize this still doesn’t completely solve teams that don’t win their conference and make it in. *cough* Bama *cough*

There’s already an 8 team playoff.

Penn state just played Minnesota.
LSU just played bama.
Oregon and Utah will play.
LSU and Georgia will play.
Ohio state will play somebody in the champ game.
Win and you’re in. Lose and you’re out.

Bama’s out. Penn state is out.

In that case it should be tOSU, Clemson, Baylor, and Georgia.

Win. Your. Conference.

I agree under the circumstance that 5 spots are P5 Conference Champs, 1 spot is highest ranked G5 team, and 2 at larges.

First round games are on college campuses

National Championship is a bad idea in general. Bring back the significance of the big bowl games. The Rose Bowl should never be seen as a consolation.

Don't want it and don't need it. With an 8 team playoff the LSU Alabama game would have been irrelevant this weekend.

Expansion would water down the regular season. 4 is the perfect number as it keeps the playoff consisting only off elite teams and keeps every game relevant. I don't know about you, but I want every game to be relevant and for something to be on the line for every game.

I think we should have 8.
But here’s the way.
After the CCGs
CFP issues top 25, like they do already.

P5 conf champs claim a playoff spot; if they are ranked in the top 12

Top ranked G5 conf champ claims a playoff spot if they are in the top 12

Top ranked non champ teams claim the 2 large spots based on rankings

If a P5 champ doesn’t qualify under top 12 rule, that spot goes to the next highest ranked top 12 team

If a G5 champ doesn’t qualify under top 12 rule that spot goes to the next highest ranked top 12 team.

Only P5 champs or ND can host the next weekend quarter finals.

2018-
1Bama vs 9 Washington
2 Clemson vs 8 UCF
3 Notre Dame vs 6 OSU
4 OU vs 5 UGA

*** Washington and UCF claimed spots under top 12 rule... Michigan eliminated as 3rd highest rank non champ team.

If a playoff is what is necessary then have the teams actually qualify for the playoffs like the professional leagues do.

If NFL used the college system, the wildcard spots Would be voted on.

The criteria should be set before the season starts.

Yeah. Alabama would never be left out.

The first year it expands to eight, just watch and see...Alabama will grab the 8th spot with two losses and will win it all.

We needed a 4 team playoff to fix the BS. Now we need an 8 team playoff to fix the 4 team playoff.

It will never end until we get to a perfect system until we get a 64 team playoff.... But oh yes... On selection Sunday in basketball we spend the entire evening talking about who was left out....

It never ends people! Someone gets left out and someone cries about it.

BS, win your conference and you are in,one conference gets left out because they are weaker, no do overs, no best losses, and other bs, just win your fing conference..pretty simple
