The Army/Navy game has usually been played at a neutral site. I don't think they've played the game on campus in decades.

Yes it was. Which is why Auburn rightly had a beef with having to play a "neutral" game every season in Alabama's home stadium
Auburn's stadium was not big enough so they went to Birmingham to play at Legion Field for a lot of games. There used to be double headers at Legion Field, Auburn would play and then a few hours after that game, Alabama would play.

How neutral is it when Jax is an hour outside the UF campus?

These rivalry games are generally much on better campuses. Red River Shootout is an exception though, it belongs in Dallas at the Texas State fair. Phenomenal environment.

This is stupid. There were just as many Georgia fans at the game and in the city last week as there were Florida fans.

LSU vs. Arkansas in Shreveport (every game from 1913-1936)
I can easily see why the teams did this given the time period. Shreveport is pretty darn close to exactly half way between Arkansas and LSU. Considering how much of a pain travel was back then that makes a lot of sense.

Not to mention that the team takes a charter flight to Jacksonville and can actually get to the city faster than UF.

I think, like someone said earlier, it is mostly at Philly but every three or so years they take the game on the road to someplace like DC. I know they have a game scheduled in the next few years someplace other than Philly but I can't remember where. Maybe New York?

Several things have changed since most of those neutral site games started. First, and probably most important, a lot of those games were played off campus because the stadiums on campus were small. Second, a lot of those college towns were really hard to get to back in the day, and didn't have lodging available for the few that could make the trip. Third, there was a time when college games didn't generate a whole lot of revenue, just the basic gate receipts, and the two teams would split the gate evenly, so a neutral site game with a larger crowd was in everyone's financial interest.

1896 (Sportsman's Park) and 1969 (Busch II) were the only two St. Louis meetings prior to '02.

It wasn't always there. They played at the first version of Yankee Stadium, Rose Bowl, Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, The Meadowlands, and I'm missing several others.

Iron Bowl with the 50/50 ticket split was the tits.

Thousands of fans of both teams in the bars and restaurants cheering and jeering and buying drinks for opposing fans. Husbands for Bama and wives for Auburn. It was great fun. My brother and I were teens but beer flowed like water for us too.

In 1926 and 1931 Alabama and Mississippi State played in Meridian at Greer Field.
Both teams traveled to Meridian by train (which was obviously the main mode of transportation in those days).
Travel considerations affected game locations much more years back. With more 4 lane highways and convenient air travel today along with the improvement of campus stadiums, you will see less and less neutral games with just a few exceptions.

Kansas and Mizzou played some of their last games at a neural site in KC.
