A lot of criticism was directed at tray Scott for a variety of reasons....some probably justified, some, imo, not.
Some took a "Wait and see what happens this year." approach.
The DLine seems to be playing great, but we have not heard a lot about recruiting (one of the criticisms)
Has Scott done enough to quell the critics, or are we still waiting to form an opinion?
This is not intended to point fingers and accuse people. But I am genuinely interested to see how people are feeling.
The DLine seems to be the strength of the defense right now to me. Recruiting is okay, but I would agree a big splash signing would be great and top it off. This was a hot topic of conversation this past summer with feelings burning white hot. I only remember one or two people that were taking strong stances against Scott.

No, and I would argue the DBs are playing better. His biggest problems are the DL staying healthy and the man across the aisle is a great recruiter and possibly the best OL coach in the nation.

I think the D-Line has played solid most of the year. IF Jordan Davis is on the field, our defense is complete. Without Davis, we’re not nearly the D-Line we can be.

I've been impressed with the DLine this year - it's hard to say whether it is Scott or just natural maturation of some young guys (specifically Herring & Davis who are dominating). Travon Walker has been a bright spot as well - he may be our version of Derrick Brown starting next year once he gets another year of weight & experience.
If you go back and watch the UF game, we absolutely were mauling Florida in the trenches. Every play at least 2 of their guys were getting beat badly. This is what seems to be what is demoralizing most of the UF fans on tRant the most. They saw what happened on the LOS yesterday and know that if that game is played 100 times, UGA wins it 95% of the time.

I'm not sure what else you can ask from the guy at this point. He's developing the talent he has, he brought in some dudes last cycle and we have Stackhouse, Brinson and Carter already on the docket. We could use another high caliber guy to come in but realistically, who would that be?
Gervon's not comin' to UGA, the ties are too strong to UF apparently. We're going after Burch. Outside of guys who just aren't a fit for our system, we have talent coming in. Yeah, everyone wants 5* but there's nothing wrong with developing 4*...terrible problem to have, right?! ;)

I agree, without Jordan Davis the DL is much less. With him, though, and they’re very impressive.
It’s a little concerning regarding our depth but I think most teams would also take a step back without a 99 in the game. But the depth isn’t there like an Auburn or Clemson this year but who is?

Really reminds me of Trenton Thompson (pre-regression) the way he runs down and bulldozes receivers.
Tyler Clark is also having a great year, and is consistently disruptive.

Their depth isn't really there either. Take Brown off Auburn, and they look way different.
Clemson DL isn't in the same stratosphere to where it was a year ago.

Wyatt has also flashed a good bit. Scott caught a lot of shite (from me included), but it's a good unit.

We cant replace davis in the run defense.
But our pass rush is fine without him. He got very limited snaps against Florida and we did fine until late in the game when we wanted to keep everything underneath. For some stupid reason, Florida still called run plays while being down 14 points.

Wyatt and Davis have been very solid for underclassmen. That is Scott picking his players.
Walker gets a ton of reps (when healthy).
Those 3 contributing this year have been huge. It will be interesting to see what we get next season from Norton, Logue, Mitchell, and Walthour.

Well, when you're 4 downs or bust the whole play books at your disposal. Mixing it up gives room for the passing game. Why not run it for 5 or 6 yards and get ahead of the chains and then have the D on their heels because they don't know if you'll go over top or run it at them.
The D held their own and didn't give up any quick scoring plays but that's what helped free up the slants and over the middle with the backers not able to immediately drop into coverage.

Because their drive took 17 plays.
Because their drive took 7 minutes when they were down by 2 TDs in the 4th quarter with 10 minutes to play.
It was assinine. It is such a simple gaffe by the Florida coaching staff to not know what quarter it was that the UF AD should be asking some very hard questions of Dan "the great gameday coach " Mullen right now. And Dan better have some damn good answers, because it conceded the victory to UGA with 10 minutes left in the game. Nobody does that.

Annnnnd if we drop back into coverage and they throw for it, don't get it, and we get the ball back and run out the clock with a long drive...they're still in the same boat. Utilizing the playbook and getting the score put them closer.
Wasn't really asinine...Jake doesn't come threw in the clutch, they get the ball back with a chance to score.
Kept fighting...I didn't see any concession. Glad the good guys came out on top.

Lol.
You are correct. An offense has to execute plays to come back from 2 scores in the 4th quarter. You got me.
What you fail to realize is they an offense like florida is playing against the clock. If you ignore the clock like Mullen, you lose without ever giving your offense a chance for 2 scores.
What you fail to realize is that Mullen chose to go a route that only teams who are unable to move the ball choose (army, navy, etc..).
Mullen chose so poorly that his team only touched the ball for 1 possession with 10 minutes to go. You fail to realize how poor a gameday coach he is for that.
You also ignore the fact that UGA hadn't had an offensive series with less than 7 plays all game.
I'm sorry that you cant see how basic a blunder this was for Mullen. He literally gave his team no chance to win with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter

That is the sham of it. His team was playing hard. But their coach had zero confidence in them and gave them zero chance.
As I said, the AD needs Mullen in his office yesterday explaining things. Because that blunder was a robbery for the offense.

Part of that was on Trask. He took a lot of time to read our defense and just about every snap was with less than 10 seconds left on the play clock. Rookie starter mistake. Fromm this year would not do that. Fromm in 2017 did it quite often.

lol Sorry someone varying from your opinion is failing to realize. I watched the same game you did and saw all the same stats...I just believe if he had tried to pass his way down there, he wouldn't have been successful. We hadn't been 3 and out all game, so to give us the ball back would have ended up in the same time constraints except without the chance to put points on the board for his own team.
It's okay to have a differing of opinions...or do you fail to realize that? ;)

Yes, he was one who has been the most vocal.
I don't think most people realize what it means to have not given up a TD rushing this deep into the season. More often than not, when a team is at the 5 yard line or closer they run the ball. We are 8 games in and have not given up a rushing TD. That is phenomenal.
People can argue that players have progressed because of natural aging progression....but that's a bad argument. A lot of players regress, or stay at the same level.
I think Scott has done a great job coaching within the scheme he is given. Our DLine has done a great job, imo. It is easily the most improved area on the team. If we is able to pull one or two more DLinemen we could be cementing a wall similar to the great teams. Maybe he can be criticized for recruiting? I don't know. But if he develops the players I have no problem with us allowing other coaches concentrating on DLine recruits and letting him develop the kids.
