The 1 team conferences out there are what's making college football stale

Forget Alabama making things stale, the SEC has multiple programs with a pulse. The SEC is the only interesting conference out there. What other conference is interesting at the moment?

All the conferences have 1 elite team and a bunch of trash, pretty much ensuring that one elite program will have a cakewalk every year.

ACC - Clemson and trash
Big10 - Ohio State and trash
B12 - Oklahoma and trash
PAC12 - 100% trash.

You're not wrong. We mostly know by week 3 who is going to the playoffs.

This certainly isn't true.

Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Ohio State hold almost all the playoff appearances by themselves.

And which of those was known in week3?

Ohio St got in after not winning it's division jumping over 2 Big12 teams in the final week.

Alabama in one of those years was sitting at home in the same situation and then Auburn loses to Georgia putting 2 SEC teams in. And of course even then some people thought Ohio St would make it in(I did not to be honest).

And really, it's been 5 years.

It certainly is.

Oregon's loss to Auburn basically knocked the Pac out of the picture.

No one in the Big 10 will challenge Ohio State. That's 1.

No one in the ACC comes close to Clemson's level. That's 2.

Alabama is basically a lock, even with a loss. That's 3.

Fourth spot will be Oklahoma, unless Texas beats them. In that case it will be LSU or UGA dependong what happens in SEC title race/game.

There your playoff picture. The rest of us are just watching to pass the time.

Drama queen bullshite. It's like you've never watched college football before. So much shite is going to happen, just like every other year.

It doesn't matter what format college football has, if your team is not that great, then it's not that great and isn't going to be relevant. If you can only enjoy the games if you think your team is in the playoff picture, then you need to take your bitch arse to another sport.

Cry more because you don't get a participation trophy.

3 of the Top 4 is SEC. Tells you all you need to know. That’s generally why the 2nd best SEC team that doesn’t make the SEC Championship gets a wild card at #4

Also, point of order,
a participation trophy is exactly what the rest of us will get.

They're called bowl games.

Not only that but alot of the big rivalries don't play anymore. You can even add PENN State and PITT to the list now.

I know why people are saying this and I totally get the sentiment but if you sit back and think about it, its really dumb.

The talk was how important that game was to Oregon because they could show everyone how strong they are by beating a team that they were ranked 6 places in front of

Agree with OP. College football unfortunately has become so top heavy (same 8-9 teams will always be the playoff contenders) that schools everywhere are seeing attendance levels drop for games.

Would be cool for 4 random teams to be in the playoff for once (ie see NCAA basketball recent final four teams: Texas Tech, South Carolina, Auburn, Wichita State). Parity keeps it fun.

Watching the same 8-9 teams compete for a football championship is only fun for those 8-9 fan bases after you learn this fact of life.

Enforce recruiting rules and things may change a little.

What’s even worse is the media still keeps pumping those teams. Obviously year to year it brings in the most money having the big dawgs compete but I have to imagine Alabama fans have spent a TON of cash going to damn near 3 post season games every year for the past 5-6 years. Fans probably travel better when you’re only doing that every so often. It’s also seemingly hurting interest in the sport. We just know who’s already going because other schools aren’t challenging the big dogs in conference.

1. Playoff commitee brought back regional bias

2.devaluation of strength of schedule put less emphasis on quality wins and more on quantity.

3.teams that have the benefit of the doubt are playing laughably bad schedules.

4.Playoff has killed bowls and is killing rivalries.

The creation of super conferences has had a bigger impact to me than any of those other things. Keep it small and let teams play conference foes more often. It also drove off the Big East and started the P5/Group of 5 divide.

Having a top heavy landscape is fine if the teams mix it up every 2-3 years, but this is the longest period I can remember the smallest number of programs dominating.
