Not shedding a tear. Their fans were awful when they visited Clemson a few years back.

To be fair, Bobby Bowden's last few years, FSU had fallen off badly. A search revealed that the last 5 years were 38-27 and 21-19 in conference. Fisher turned it back around pretty quickly. FSU won their division his first year, and were ACC champions 3 his first 5 years and national champions his 4th year.
I talked last year with the wife of an ex player who is evidently still connected with the program and she said Fisher's problems the last couple of years were personal issues. Apparently his ex wife wasn't the only one of the two of them making out like bandits. Was more than that but basically he was ready to get away and start over somewhere else. Personally, I think he'll do well at A&M. Who knows.

I don't think the current coach will do it, but it's a pretty good bet that within a few years they'll be odds on favorites most years in the ACC. They are committed to a winning program but made a horrible hire.

Fsu deserves this. Lol

FSU hosts ULM, Louisville, NC State, Syracuse, Miami and Alabama State.
AD's keep blaming millennials, cell phones and HD TV for falling ticket sales. In all reality just look at the types of home schedules they are providing ticket holders and the answer is easy.

Fsu didn't have too much trouble selling tix in bowdens heydey. Other than that they've always struggled.
Folks here are way too young but us older guys remember when they were a struggling team that hat to give auburn 3 for ones in the 80s. That went 4 times to Nebraska without getting a return trip from the huskers.
They were what byu is now. Central Florida reminds me of them coming on. Fsu didn't demand shite like ucf does but earned it over a 15 year span. Now fsu is the fsu I remember as a kid.

Check out how many times they went to Tiger Stadium before they could get a return trip. LSU didn't want any part of Bowden.

Florida State's in dire financial straits right now
LOL @ their AD trying to blame it in part on fan's attitudes...
quote:
“It’s a reflection of the last two or three seasons we’ve had, the schedule we have at home, and the attitude of this generation between 20 and 40 about going to live sporting events,” FSU athletics director David Coburn told Warchant in a recent interview.
Fan's between the ages of 20-40 are (on the whole) in a massively different economic position relative to fans of previous eras... Perhaps the continuously inflated ticket prices (or more specifically donation levels required to purchase them) could have something to do with it? Schools - for YEARS - have gone to that well to increase donation levels required and more and more often have made it very challenging for recent grads to gain access to season tickets... therefore they hand-crafted a generation who largely don't feel as attached to attending the games after they graduate. Now they are surprised that the field is barren when they were the ones who failed to water, fertilize, and plant them to begin with...
I don't think there has been a massive shift in "interest" in attending live sporting events, rather a willingness to part with the money required to attend those events as the costs continue to rise.
Frequently see job listings with $15/hr pay rates where desired education is college degree or even masters... College is more expensive than ever and kids are graduating with 6 figure debt... I'm really fortunate to not be in that boat, but holy shite the lack of awareness to try and blame it on people's attitude rather than their fiscally intelligent decision making is eyepopping.
This is THE MOST accurate statement I’ve ever seen posted. You are most definitely right about the lack of awareness. Then again, this the baby boomer generation that caused this. They’ve done it at every other level of society too.

We can laugh at FSU, but many other college schools will also feel financial pain. ESPN rights fees are going down, regular tickets are harder to sell (premium tickets are in demand), who wants to sit in an upper deck compared to home? Fewer folks are traveling to away and neutral site games (Auburn did not sell out of tickets against UW in Atlanta), parking is harder, tailgating is harder, etc.
The average age of fans attending games is going up. Even Bama has a hard time getting students to the games.

If FSU joined the sec they would have bigger crowds. Can ESPN pay for FSU and Clemson the the SEC east, West Virginia and Cincinnati to the ACC and BYU to the big 12. Everybody wins maybe add Colorado state and Houston to the big 12 to get to 12

I live an hour from Tally and have zero desire to watch any of those games in person.
An FSU podcast a couple months ago talked the issues for ticket sales even with a good home slate. There aren't a lot of people within a 100 mile radius of Tallahassee compared to other power 5 programs. There are around 500k more people within 100 miles of Lincoln NE, than Tally

Guys lets not kid ourselves. The schools are still making a ton of money from ticket sales and donations. They are just going to have to be conservative with their money.
If they were losing money then you would see less staff and less donor fees to generate interest in the program.
90% of donors are in the bottom donation levels, while the most money comes from the 10% of the top donor levels. As long as the schools have rich donors, they care little about the people trying to save money to buy season tickets outside the 35 yard line.

While it doesn’t look good I think this is probably a growing trend for college football, season ticket sales and attendance being down. I’m sure some other schools are having similar problems just not as drastic as FSU.
I do wish FSU would go so broke they would have to sell Renegade just to stay a float. Wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit.
