2030/2031

I don’t have kids, but hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy these games with them.

If 75% of these play out over the next decade there will be a lot of fun week 1/2 games.

With Florida suddenly getting the itch to venture outside the Sunshine State for OOC games for the first time in decades, it makes me wonder if the ADs have been told off the record to expect to have to add more Power 5 opponents to schedules in the future.

In 2028, Georgia has OOC games against (1) Georgia Tech, (2) Texas, and (3) Florida State. In 2029, we again play three OOC opponents in (1) Georgia Tech, (2) Texas, and (3) Clemson..... In years past we typically only played Georgia Tech when it came to OOC teams from Power conferences, but now playing an additional Power 5 team has become the norm, and starting in 2028, we've even increaed the number to THREE OOC Power opponents.

Now suddenly Florida is changing things up by adding Power OOC opponents outside their annual game against FSU. They've got Colorado scheduled in 2028-2029 and now Texas for 2030-2031.

Interesting that both of these teams decided to add an additional Power opponent to their norm starting in 2028.

I wonder if the Power 5 ADs anticipate a new rule to get rid of all these FCS cupcakes or a rule that each team must play 10 Power opponents during a season.... something along those lines.

It just seems odd to me. I love it! But it seems odd.

National media seemed to think this is preemptive scheduling in advance of expanded playoff field. I could easily see some of these series cancelled (UGA included) if there is no movement on that front.

There's certainly the decreasing fan attendance issues involved that this helps, but I can't see teams actively working against their own competitive interests... Like BHM I think it feels like something calculated here.. whether that's expanded playoff, proposed incoming schedule rules that have support, or even just the SEC fighting against 9 game conference schedules...

As a college football fan, you should educate yourself instead of listening to all the anti-SEC bashing about schedules going on out there. The SEC plays more power 5 out of conference games than any other conference. As for Florida, they also play Miami periodically. No, they are not out of state, but so what. There is no other state that has a team playing 2 other out of conference power 5 teams on a regular basis. If A&M had a series against Texas and another Texas team, it would be another one. But, they don't.

I thought there would be no math, but doesn't the SEC play less power 5 in conference games than any other conference?

That would be my guess. Expand the field so if your schedule is strong enough you can lose a couple of games and still possibly get in. Then folks will schedule tougher teams and have more sellouts.
