At home in Columbia, though, attendance continues to be an issue for Missouri. The Tigers’ average home game attendance dropped in 2018 for the fourth straight year, down to 51,465 per game.

Wait, they play football?

I dont think I have ever seen a once respectable school fall so hard and fast all around

It will turn around; attendance is starting to rise so attendance should do the same.

No wonder they didn’t have money to do a decent renovation in the end zone.

You mean other than $100+M renovation we're doing right now??

Why does it look so much worse that Arkansas or Mississippi State or UK’s recent renovations?

I don't blame them. They mostly play teams they don't care about.
Why would someone living in Missouri care about playing Florida? How many Florida grads could they possibly know?

What was the rationale for adding Mizzou to the SEC?

Every ones attendance is dropping even teams that are highly successful like Alabama and Clemson. It’s not about Missouri but it’s so much more convenient to watch in a huge screen without strangers and all the snacks you want that’s right there by you. Accessible clean restrooms. Every game is on TV. They could reduce the size of all football stadiums.

St Louis and KC TV market. Same with adding A&M.

I don’t think A&M helped much with the STL or KC markets.

Hear, hear.
When it comes to stadiums bigger is not better, better is better. Improve the seating, the restrooms, the food... serve a smaller number of people in a more enjoyable atmosphere.
College football pulled a China on stadiums. We over built the demand drastically.

Big 12 school.
By the way, that article is from December.

I definitely think the trend now is increasing premium amenities at the expense of capacity.
No school needs 100k+ capacity for every game. I think when you see schools like LSU, Bama, and Tennessee announce the next rounds of stadium renovations, it's going to bring their overall capacities down.
And apparently some schools in the SEC need to bring their capacities way down...

Have won their division 2 times since LSU has last.
Brace yourselves, preseason top 10 incoming.

that would help Mizzou, but even then, I think it'd suck to be a fan of them.
Growing up hating teams like Auburn, UT, even Miss State, then one year Alabama starts playing in the ACC Coastal. That would blow, and it's basically what happened to Missouri fans.
I wonder if these teams that left their traditional conference will suffer from it long term. I understand why they did it, but I just can't imagine a kid growing up in Kansas City getting really into SEC football.
