Someone explain the reasoning behind hiring a new OC.

I just don't understand. I'm seeing it talked about on multiple sites by mods and members.... obviously the rumor is Freeze.
My question: Why?
We already hired a friend of Gus, Chip Lindsey. We have seen that he has not given Chip 100% control, or even close to that.
Why in the world, with all the bitching about money, would we fire a guy, pay him, then hire a new guy with a new contract and new buyout
Additionally, we are bringing someone in that will have to call plays and schemes that are approved by Gus.
I just don't understand.

Make Kodi Burns the OC, Gus will run the offense anyway.

That's my point.
Gus needs to say it's my offense or I'm handing the keys over. Not something in the middle

Chip is no Freeze. If Malzahn cannot see that his arse is on the line but has an amazing opportunity to let an elite playcaller in Freeze rescue his career, then that’s a firable offense on it’s own.

Fire the OC and don't hire a new OC being Gus is running the offense anyway and put the money saved towards Gus' buyout.

Not to mention that the guy has accumulated a laundry list of serious NCAA violations and loves hookers, but hey, lets go get him!

Punishment. Someone has to suffer for losing to Tennessee.

Influx of new ideas. I would hire the next two OCs. Have one learning. It is no differemt than Saban. It is his D system. He just hires a DC to manage day to day activities.

We need somebody who can develop a Quarterback. I dont care if its a QB coach or an OC. However Gus has shown he cant do it. He needs help in this department and needs to go hire somebody.

Unless we improve over these last 4 games, someone has to pay.
shite rolls downhill, so the OC has to go.

Didn't freeze already take a job as OC in the new pro football league? Pretty sure Rick Nieuheisel hired him onto the team he is coaching.

We might find our next HC?

Petrino's about to be available. Let him try to meddle in his offense.

Because if you have a chance to upgrade you do it. Freeze is a better recruiter and coach.

... so Gus can save face.

Gus is a lame duck coach for all intents and purposes. Barring a title run next season, he's out at the end of the 2019 season. What kind of OC would want to hitch his boat to the Titanic?

Yes. He makes about $100K per year. I also somehow doubt that his future career aspirations involve acting as an OC in a league no one even knows exists, for a salary that is less than what we pay some desk-job football staffers.
What I'm getting at here, is that Freeze's current job means nothing.

The kind that wants nearly a million a year for 2 to 3 year. Freeze will not turn down 2 year 2 million dollars. So long as Gus will give him control.
