First of all, I am not an Auburn fan. In fact, I am actually kind of relieved that Auburn's A.D. Allen Greene effectively announced this morning that they cannot afford to fire Malzahn--relieved for no other reason than to keep it so easy for my alma mater to can keep on beating them.

That said, agent Jimmy Sexton's stranglehold on SEC athletic departments and their spending of millions of dollars on buy-outs that should be used for far more productive things at universities than failed coaching staffs, flat out needs to be stopped--and now.

Blame the ADs, not Sexton.

Dude is doing his job - totally legit.

If I ever became a coach or got involved in the entertainment industry - I’d beg him to represent me.

Auburn hung themselves by offering Malzahn that contract, but Sexton handed them the rope.

ETA: But it's Sexton's job to get the most money for his clients. It's like blaming a defense lawyer for a jury finding someone not guilty.

Exactly. Its Sexton's job to get his clients the most favorable contract possible. The blame should fall on the university for agreeing to the contract, not Sexton for being good at his job.

You have to be really dumb to put any blame on Sexton for that. Blame school admins, TV executives, the NCAA etc. Blaming an agent is fricking stupid

I halfway expect to one day see a story about some terminally ill fan killing a guy like Malzahn - just so things like that buyout are not an issue.

Unless Jimmy S. is way ahead of the curve in how these contracts are written. And would that surprise anyone?

How is it Sexton's fault? College Presidents and rich board members are approving it.

In other words Auburn's administration needs to be protected from itself!

LSU beats Bama and Sexton will be coming to put the Rosie Finch Boys LLC out of business.

So Sexton made Auburn agree to that contract? What did he do? Tell them he had Harvey Updyke sitting out back with a sprayer full of Spike80 and wasn't afraid to use him?

Sexton did nothing but do his job. It isn't his fault if the Auburn AD didn't do HIS job. Nobody makes these ADs agree to contracts and buyouts. Further, if it wasn't Sexton it would be other agents. Dana Holgerson has only lost fewer than 5 games once in his entire WVa tenure, yet Trace Armstrong got him $18mil. Guess Trace has to go as well?

Here's a question - do you want to get rid of everyone that is very good at their job? You must be a very mediocre person.
