Just out of genuine curiosity, where do you see the 4 or 5 losses?
I think MS St will definitely lose to Bama and LSU. I wouldn't guess LSU is any better than MS St but it's in BR and y'all embarrassed them last season. From there I have AUB winning in Starkville. I think QB play and defenses will be about equal and the experience as an SEC head coach prevails in a close one. I have you losing to OM based on the fact the Bulldogs laid down a bit towards the end of last season, the game is in Oxford, and they have some high level talent on offense. K St is my toss up game. Pretty good road test for a program that's facing record expectations in week 2. A&M could also pose a problem with them coming off a bye and you coming off LSU.

So my ceiling for MS St is 9-3 with losses to Bama and LSU, and splitting AUB and OM. I know the OM thing sounds crazy to State fans but rivalry games are just that college football.

You know we return almost everyone from a team that beat LSU by 30 last year, right?
Posted on 8/10/18 at 10:28 pm to BulldogDX
You know OM beat you last year too. You can't discount one and not the other.

Yes, I'm aware you return 18 starters from an 8-4 team. State fans are hanging their hat on it. I obviously value LSU's program, home field advantage, and revenge factor more than your returning starters.

So you are confident we lose to a school we beat 37-7 last year?

What was the score the year before? Asking because I'm not looking it up.

Yes I am. You better hope TN/Bama doesn't get the 230 CBS game because that's your only hope from playing at night when LSU has an incredible win pct at home.
MS St has won 10 games in a regular season once and Dak Prescott was your QB. He's in the Tebow/Newton class.
Why don't any State fans speak on the coaching change?

Because we made the best coaching hire we could have hoped to make. We really aren’t worried about that. It’s a pretty good time to be a State fan.

Probable on field upgrade. Already PR upgrade, and recruiting upgrade. He's smarter. Some good position coaching hires. Easy going guy. People, players really like him.

Well kudos to ya. Your guy has a learning curve and to not consider that is wishful.

Doesn't make sense to me. Same team as last year who won one as an underdog and lost one as a favorite. Those two games kind of cancel each other out due to LSU being overrated and Fitz getting hurt against OM. My guess is that consistency will continue even with more experience because you have a new head coach in an unfamiliar and gauntlet of a division. Two for sure losses in Bama and LSU. Would be an underdog against Auburn today and single digit faves against K ST, OM, A&M, and FL. They'll drop two or three in those 5. 7 or 8 wins seems likely.
It was Dan Mullen's team! The expert thinks this head coach will be a better head coach than Dan Mullen based on recruiting and other potentials for this year. You are right to make YOUR own decision about and you are not an expert to what others are paid and done more research than you have. Yes there can be some surprise like Missouri won two SEC east division in a short time in the SEC.

A veteran QB returns with good OL/DL play. It's usually a recipe for over-achievement.

Didn’t they have a 7-10 point lead agaisnt a Jalen Hurts led Alabama team and still blew it?
That was there chance to make some noise.

We're tied for 3rd in the country for top 150 NFL talent by scout/24/7.
Yes predictions can be flawed, but with all of the evidence presented in this thread, how can you not understand why we are confident?
Also, you asked for our score vs LSU in 2016- we lost 23-20 when we were unquestionably worse and they were probably better.

We return 4 starters and a guy who started 4 games last year on the offensive line. Our offensive line gave up the least sacks in the SEC last season (5th in NCAA), 3rd least tackles for loss in the SEC (15th in NCAA). On 3rd and 4th down with less than 2 yards to go, we ran for a first down or a touchdown 84.2% of the time, that's #2 in the NCAA and #1 in the SEC.
We have a dark horse Heisman cantidate at quarterback who is likely to break the SEC QB all time rushing yards record this season. His poor passing numbers last season was mainly due to the lack of talent at WR and injuries at WR. This year, we add in the #1 JUCO WR and people are saying there's a good chance he will be drafted in April. Whop and Williams are both talented. Mixon is back. Dear is back from injury.
We return a 1,000 yard rusher from last season, Aeris Williams. He is being pushed for the starting job by Kylin Hill, who is actually better than Aeris.
We have the best defensive line in the SEC. 2 All SEC players (Simmons & Sweat). Rivers gets to play this year and people are saying he is better than Sweat. Gerri Green is moving from linebacker to defensive end. Hoyette and Thomas are experienced and talented at defensive tackle.
We have a veteran starter at linebacker, Leo Lewis. I believe Erroll Thompson is going to have a breakout year this season. Willie Gay is going to play a lot also.
Our secondary is better than last season. Peters, Rayford, Dantzler at corner. We've added Brian Cole to the team, he will start at nickel. McLaurin led the SEC in interceptions last season and is back. Abram is back.

People like to point to the LSU game last year for them. They also played Bama down to the wire when it was clear Hurts was on a collision course with riding the bench. So they had some nice bright spots to build on.
But let's not forget what happened when they played the two teams that met in Atlanta. UGA blew them out 31-3. Auburn has beat them by a combined 63 over the past 2 years.
They are trending in the right direction but are a very long way away from being considered a threat to the top teams. And have an unknown with the new coach. So I'm just as confused about the confidence in them.

23-20 LSU. With the worst DC in college football.
