Old guy here, not sure I can make 4 hours of Texas heat at my age.
In terms of non corporate AC seating, suggestions on the best place to sit?

Early October so it's really unsure. Some years its nice and others it's still hot. Hope for a night game. Or a morning game, but those are never as fun.
Sit on the West side. Closer to the South end. Shade comes quicker.

Have not been to College Station since the upgrade
Interesting to see what changed
Tackle Box may not have been pretty but at least it was unique.

West side. Best shot at shade. The lowest level has AC concourse. If you can score club seats then that’s your best bet.

October is the most variable time of year in Texas in terms of temperature. It could just as easily be in the 50s as it could the 90s. In CS the average daily high and low in October varies almost 30 degrees (Average low in the mid-50s, average high in the mid-80s).
Given that the game is in early October, best guess is that it will be sunny with a high around 85-90 and a low of around 65.

In October, the heat is unlikely to be an issue. Very rarely, there is an add finger of heat that comes in, but not often. It looks like the record hight for Oct 6th is 96, but that is exceedingly unlikely. The average high is 84, which is nice.

I would imagine it will be around 72 degrees in the air conditioned wedding I will be attending between an A&M and Kentucky grad

Actually he is talking to a Scot.
Anything above 60 and it is hot to me. When you are young it matters less but past 20 - 30 years I have become conditioned by air conditioning.

The West side doesn't face true West

Correct. But the nw corner gets shade quicker than the sw corner in Sept & early Oct.

Correct. If you sit closer to the field on the south part of the West Side, the sun will hit you far longer than someone on the north end. This is especially true the closer we get to Winter Solstice.

I have no knowledge of the validity of this study...just passing it along.
