Oldest or most "historic" college town bars.

I've been hitting up Maxine's on Block Ave with increasing frequency. That got me thinking:
What are your college town's oldest or most "historic" college bars?
Maxines opened in 1950 and is still in the original building, although it has been upgraded to craft cocktails and hipsters the past decade.
George's Majestic Lounge beats it badly, being in constant operation since 1929.
Maxine's (before & after hipsterization)
George's

I miss the old Maxines. There aren't any good dives on Dickson St. anymore darn it.

Group Therapy or Bar None would be the closest ones in Columbia. Both have been around thru generations.

Half of Roger's Rec still exists. Kingfish is a deliberate "dive bar"
Smoke & Barrel is approaching that status. At least they haven't bothered to update or clean it up much since it opened.

I think Tuscaloosa has forced out most of the historic college bars. Is Harry's the oldest one left?

It’s got to be Harry’s or Gallettes for Ttown. Would love to go get a bucket at Harry’s soon.

If it's still open. I remember when he opened it. If you never knew Harry (Hammonds), you missed something. I grew up around him...the guy was a legend in Tuscaloosa from high school (early 60s) going forward....played basketball at Alabama.

It's still open, but new owners.
Not sure it's still the hotspot it was for years though. I went in there one Thursday night after a concert at the amphitheater a couple of years ago, and there were only a few people in there.
Jcakie's has been around a while as well.

RIP War Eagle Supper Club -- I was regular there in the 70s when Mr Lambert owned it and it had been going strong since the 50s. Closed a couple of years ago... was a big part of being an Auburn man several decades

We don't really have any "old" bars but Sky smells like mothballs on HC weekend due to the amount of alumni reliving the glory days.

It's reopening soon as The Corner Restaurant and Bar. Drove by it this past weekend and it looks nice. That whole area is almost unrecognizable from when I was in school. I'm starting to miss sketchy Columbia.

Harry’s is older than Gallettes by a few years. Gallettes opened about the same time as the Ivory Tusk (Rip).
The Chukker was the real grandaddy of true Tuscaloosa bars, but it's been gone about 15 years now.

Yeah, "J's Corner", but it isn't Jaco's. I drive by it everyday on my way in to work. Stopped by a few times after really shitty days.

Lees tomb was pretty cool. As was the original Booth.
(And a Solomons sandwich afterwards).

Unfortunately, all of the old bars in Oxford have shut down. The Gin and Forrester’s were a couple of the classics.
