During the first half I thought they were playing with 14 players. That offense was so ridiculously fast and efficient that I thought we were playing the Patriots.

I don't know what adjustments we made in the second half, or the pounding starting taking its toll or they just got overconfident but the fact that we held them to 14 in the second half was unbelievable.

What an amazing turnaround.

They looked good but our defense looked like shiite. We didn't get any pass rush and their lineman were pushing us around and getting into the 2nd level. Once we started getting a consistent pass rush they didn't look very good. Only 10 points by that offense in the 2nd half and OT.

I was impressed with how their OL handled our DL in our first half.

I was also disappointed in our 3rd down blitzes which opened up huge plays with their screen game.

Blitzing on earlier downs in the second half made a big difference.

They’re a great football team. It’s why it was so funny to me watching a decent number of our fans be dismissive to them.

One of the best offenses in the history of the game. Defense sucks but they’re definitely a team I expect to see in the playoffs again over the next few years.

I give them credit.

I also saw a showboat QB leader get what he deserved.

Run around Like an airplane today Baker. Bitch.

Was I the only one who thought it looked like their entire O line was holding in the first half ?

I agree because it seemed like our guys never got an arm out or could get off a block on their running plays. They were just running past our DL.

Either everyone was watching Mayfield or they were being held.

In the 1st half, their OLine were EASILY getting to the 2nd level and creating huge holes for their run game, that combined with terrible tackling = 31 1st half points. In the 2nd half, our DLine did a lot better job striking blockers and keeping the LBs free to make plays, that combined with better tackling and eye discipline = 10 2nd half offensive points. Unbelievable adjustments made at halftime.

The big matchup was OK off vs UGA def. OK offense dominated the 1st half matchup, UGA defense dominated the 2nd half/OT matchup. UGA made plays when we needed to, OK didn't.

Oklahoma drives
1st half - 6 drives/5 scores (4 tds/1 fg)
2nd half - 8 drives/1 score (td)
OT - 2 drives/1 score (fg)

Yeah they handled them by holding. Tons of holding that didn't get called. Moot point now but I was livid at the lack of non calls.

ETA: Now that I've actually read all the replies in the thread it looks like I wasn't the only one who thought this.

We started rushing to hit Mayfield instead of rushing contain. Simple as that.

That first drive he delivered the ball so quickly that it negated the rush. I'll need to watch again but we had to have done something to mess up his timing on the routes. I was too jacked to be paying attention.

We got a holding call.

At some point, we have to realize what is going to get called and what isnt. Otherwise, we areally just complaining to air (no one cares).

Another example of this is Oklahoma's tight end and receivers blocking downfield before their QB throws the football. They engaged blocks before Mayfield released the ball. It is illegal. But sometimes you have to man up and just deal with it.

I know and it was a pretty crucial call but they could have called 6 more easily. Like I said moot point now but I was about to shoot my TV at one point.

Mother. fricking. This.

That said, I want a couple of trick plays like that TD pass that Douchebag caught.

Oklahoma’s left tackle held nearly the entire game.

According to Kirby our D played contain on Mayfield in the 1st half. That slowed down any rush and allowed Mayfield to roam in the backfield. In the 2nd half they went back to a pressure D that (although it risked giving up a big play) they got to the QB and forced him to throw before their plays could develop.

We don't need those. We've got a MAN at QB that sprung a block that allowed the game winning TD run.

I would think you would do the opposite. Put pressure on him and if he starts beating you with his legs then adjust. Get some shots in on him early and don't play soft.

Their first three or so drives were WAY too easy.

Correction on my OP too - they only scored 1 offensive TD in the 2nd half. That's damn impressive.

Sadly, I agree here... We got away with some holding ourselves at least. Not nearly as blatant IMO but we did. We also got away with some very "physical" play from Baker that didn't get whistled... easily could have gone the other way...

I also noticed the TE/WR "blocking" (read holding) prior to the ball being put in the air... Herbie tried to couch it as a "mesh concept" or pick/rub play... but it was anything but. They literally ran routes, grabbed guys, then threw a swing pass to the open area which allowed a semi sized hole because there were no defenders allowed to move to the area... was very strange.

The question of how to defend Mayfield has doomed teams for 3 seasons. Turns out the pressure game worked.
Now for Hurts I think the contain defense will be better. Force him to throw and don't let him run. Roquan or Lorenzo should follow Hurts everywhere.
