What are your thoughts on this?

Note: I'm not talking about getting caught with marijuana on their possession, simply testing positive for it on a drug test.

What disciplinary action would you say they deserve, if any?

IMO they shouldn't even test for it.

As a regular user myself I have zero issues with it. Unless it's an Alabama player. Those guys deserve to be suspended.

They don't in the NBA, and it seems to be working out alright. I vote this.

It is ridiculous people are punished in this society for it. It's a modern day prohibition. It's no more dangerous than alcohol or tobacco yet many people who decry cannabis/THC are fine with both of those. It is a ridiculous social stigma. So what I'm saying is is I don't care if they test positive for it.

I personally think its bullshite. Being high/getting high isn't illegal. The means to that end is.

Shouldn't be illegal.

Should only be tested with the same severity as alcohol.

I would be fine with the NCAA stop testing for it. If schools want to test for it fine, or if schools want to punish players getting arrested for possessing it, then that's also fine. The only thing the NCAA needs to test for are performance enhancing drugs. They don't need to be acting like probation officers.

Two different issues (e.g., whether players should be tested, what to do if they test positive).

I don’t think it’s smart for any athlete—particularly one who’s receiving a scholarship—to smoke anything. But if I were the policy maker, coaches, not the NCAA, would handle it internally.

Since, however, it IS on the NCAA’s list of banned substances, I’m ok with a 1-2 game suspension, depending on the circumstances. Players know the rules, regardless of what they may think of ‘em.

It should be legalized. The amount of $ the states are losing in tax revenue is insane.

I literally couldn't care less about them smoking weed.

It's a hell of a lot safer than college kids smoking spice in an attempt to bypass piss tests and jumping out of windows as a result.

It's certainly not performance enhancing...

I use marijuana and I think ultimately it should be legal. But the people that champion it always seem to act like it's harmless when it just isn't. Studies show it causes brain damage and can induce psychosis and schizophrenia. Smoking it is terrible for your lungs and it causes emphysema and lung cancer. It also has negative effects on the users heart.
Besides all the health effects, do you really want everyone on your favorite team going around high all day? You're lying to yourself if you think marijuana is harmless and has no effects.

If Toby Kieth can make a song about it. It should be legalized.

But, if the players are looking for (doubt it) just the pain killing aspect, you can get CBD oil or capsules and not test positive for THC.

People will argue that it shouldn't be illegal and the like, but that really does not change anything. Like everyone else, football players have to make choices and sacrifices, and they should be held accountable just like everyone else.

Instead of a bowl ring, give 'em an engraved cigarette lighter?

If the school granting the scholly says you can't smoke weed then don't smoke weed. It doesn't matter what someone thinks should be okay. These players will likely find many future employers, include those outside of football, will have the same rule.

Would you argue THC makes you lazy? As in more likely to miss class, mandatory meetings, or not perform to standards in practice. I would.

I am for legalization, but not for college athletics or athletics in general. Their performance will be stunted, and that could lead to multiple issues like injuries from inattentiveness, poor performance in drills, missing assignments, and that is heightened come game time.
