Because verbal contracts are still contracts in this country
While usually extremely hard to prove...
Well the vols made this an easy one to prove

What about the part where Vol officials have already admitted to vetting the Penn State story is confusing to you?
Honestly I didn't see that. So in that case you'd just have to threaten to go in front of the camera and say "we didn't anticipate the degree of opposition to hiring someone who was allegedly complicit with child fricking."
Now you're being a bigger moron.
You'll go in front of the cameras and actually say..."'yeah, we knew he allegedly was complicit, but we had no idea there would be this level of opposition, yada, yada , yada."
You'll still end up looking like a fricking idiot.

UT is going to have to pay their way out of this one. Schiano might never coach again because of UT, and it's going to cost them.

For all we know Schiano could've sent his letter of resignation to Urban as soon as he signed the MOU. If he had did this that's detrimental reliance based on him having the Tennessee job.

UT didn’t write the story or create or disseminate the testimony.

Lol no. You probably still will.
This whole ordeal just proves even more how much of a shite show Tennessee is. Who on earth would want to get involved with that?

Maybe LSU fans can take a page from our playbook next time you’re searching for a coach
Our new coach is about to win 10 games. Tennessee hasn't done that in 10 years, and probably won't for the entire tenure of your next coach. Instead, it'll just be more losing seasons. Tennessee, by the way, has SIX losing seasons since 2007. Absolutely pathetic.
Good luck. Your program is truly irrelevant.

So how many former coaches is UT still paying??
Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) apparently signed by Schiano and UT. It will be argued whether this will be enforceable. “Parties often draft agreements with language that blurs the lines between a contract and an MOU. The key
is to focus on whether the parties intend to be legally bound by the terms of the agreement. Although what the parties call the written document may provide evidence of their intent, it does not determine the type of agreement the parties have created.”
Basically, Schiano hires good lawyers to he intended to be bound by the terms of the agreement and UT will have to pay. They might get away with not paying full buyout but they will pay. Schiano will probably remain the DC at OSU and get a “raise” for a day of BS.
Leave it to UT to make a terrible PR move and pay a guy that will never be a Head Coach again.

If it was a multi year deal it’d have to be in writing, statute of frauds.

You guys are missing the point. You don't actually hold the press conference - just threaten it. You think Schiano wants to be involved in a defamation lawsuit for the next 3-5 years over the University of Tennessee's statements about his alleged complicity with child fricking?

how'd that work with butch?

Are you serious? LOL No, Tennessee won't hire a coach worth a damn because of this. You can't pull out of a contract like this based on hearsay about a guy. This is the United States. Read a bit about Contract law and you'd know Tennessee was wrong for this.

Trust me, if UT in any way does this or attempts to do it and perpetuates the perception that Sciano enabled these horrible acts, they are going to be sued into oblivion.

I took more than a class. I'm a lawyer. You all fricked over Schiano based on hearsay. You don't think Ohio State knew about those hearsay allegations? Of course they did and Schiano must've been found in the clear. You guys won't hire any coach worth a damn because of this. You guys pulled some bush league shite.
I'm a lawyer too and I haven't seen anything that says they had a signed, written agreement. As a lawyer, you should know that a "mutual understanding" isn't an enforceable contract.

Schiano can rightly argue that Tenn could have potentially prevented him from getting another head coaching job by their actions. Tenn is gonna pay
How? The ex Penn State QB is the party that made the allegations. I haven't seen anyone from Tennessee make a statement that Schiano turned a blind eye to Sandusky diddling little boys.

If perpetuating incorrect perceptions gave the victim a legal cause of action we'd all be in lawsuits all the time.
