I used to think that if we were not going to hire the best coach available, then we may as well keep Gus. At least we know what we have. 7-5 or 8-4, beat the breaks off the MS schools. I mean we could do worse.

Then LSU happened this year. Yes, I know we can point to other games, Clemson, UGA's etc, but LSU did it for me. I would rather have a engineer call plays with some statistics program based off down & distance.

All that being said, I think Gus is here next year, does worse, then is gone. There will be multiple coaching jobs every year. We will need to pull a UF and do it mid-season to get a jump start. Like I have said before, it's time for a complete oil change....from the AD down to the part-time lady in the athletic dorm cafeteria, all gone.

AU could possibly be Top 5 right now if Head Coach Dumbass didn’t try to sit on a 9 point lead against LSU.

Screw him.

Oddly, the only coach calling plays for AU natty and runner up natty. But, you would prefer some other coach call plays. Brilliant.

If a recruit Doesn't pick AU based on posts on message boards, we probably are dodging a bullet

I’m not delusional. I’ve watched the college game a long time. I understand that Gus hasn’t figured out how to finish off good teams with a big lead, or gets stuck ina rut playcalling and can’t get out of it, and Stidham hasn’t learned to handle pressure or momentum of SEC. I get it.

But your hopeless attitude is beyond ridiculous. These players are between 18 and 23. I’ve watch Jason Campbell go from doo doo to 1st round pick. You probably would have benched him. I’ve seen AU come back from 24 down on Saban coached team.

I’ve seen Stidham throw a rope on target while getting hit in the face. I’ve watched KJ dip, jump, dive, run over people for tough yards. Our d line dominate in the 4th qtr.

We are close to being a dominate team, yet you pull for defeat. You pull for Gus To shite the bed, for Stidham to get scared and take sacks, because you know hw this should turn out.

Well- I believe Gus and Chip will figure out a few plays, and our kids will play their guts out and get over the hump. Unlike you, I pull for AU everyday. When it’s time to fire the coach, it will happen, I will support it.

Until then- to the rest of the board, our Tigers are preparing to make a run. It’s going to be fun. Enjoy it - until then.

God damn son, I bet you have a wooden framed Auburn Creed either hanging in your bedroom or AU themed man cave.

If he goes 0-2 against our rivals again, that isn't enough to deserve to keep his job IMHO

It would suck.

But I would think AU is better served with getting a new AD before any assessment of coaching changes can really begin.

And that has not happened yet. It does seem like the calendar is working in favor of Gus, in that regard.

But I think his job is still definitely in play if we lose to both GA and UA at home.

Like someone else said earlier though, our best hope should be he corrects during this season. Looking for a magic cure with a new coach is never a sure thing. Ideally, the schedule of wins and losses ends up where we a new coach is not needed.

We will know soon enough.

We will discuss this again in just a few weeks. Let see if Gus gives up a big lead vs. Georgia or allows us to get boat raced by bama again.

I am rooting for Gus but two stupid Clemson losses and 17 first down runs vs. LSU and giving up a 20 point lead does not give me comfort.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Another Family loser attitude, Auburn is a way more attractive job than anyone else with the talent loaded roster they have. The right coach could step in and compete for a NC in their first year. For the record we are not keeping Gus after he loses to UGA and BAMA again.

You can say a lot about Gus, but he has probably played bama as well as anyone over the last 3 years. He torched them in 2014 only to watch an impotent D cost him the game. He limped through 2015 keeping it close until Champ went all Champ on the sideline. In 2016 it never felt like we had a chance, but somehow we hung around with them. His ability to play them with roster deficiencies is reason in my mind to pause and see what it might be like if he can ever develop a roster close to as talented as bama.

Jeremy Johnson was mentally checked out and Gus kept him in there, he should have put JFIII in and ran the hell out of the read option, but in typical hard headed Gus fashion he stuck with JJ.

I was on the JFIII train much of last season. I never really believed SW was more than an 8 win QB...to his credit if he would have stayed healthy he would have been a 9 win QB. Still JFIII against Vandy showed he wasn't capable of running the zone read well enough to pressure a D. I guess you could have called it from the box, but in the end JFIII was on Rhett. He shouldn't have been given a scholarship. To his credit he worked hard, stayed out of trouble and did the best he could with what he had to work with from a physical skill set.

IMHO the problem comes down to the number of decent coaches available. Based on the responses on message boards, people mainly fall into two camps:

Delusional/don’t understand football:
James Franklin - are you fricking kidding? That’s his dream job. He’s not leaving on his own for any other college.
Petrino - Really? His best days are behind him
Fisher - unless he gets fired he ain’t leaving FSU
Kiffin - dude is toxic as they come and hasn’t proven he can be a successful HC

Take a shot with an up-and-comer. These are the people who are convinced that after one or two significant wins, we should hand the reigns over to the guy at Iowa State or another smaller program.

Look, Alabama was one more bad hire away from being Tennessee. Saban was a proven HC who needed a job right when Alabama needed a HC.

I was off the Gus Bus after LSU. Unless he can win 3 of the next 4 games, I won’t be back on. However, I’m also smart enough to realize we could be a lot worse off.

As far as replacements go, it’s a very short list for me and it starts with Bob Stoops. Throw everything at him and make him turn you down.

I try to be as positive as they come but there is a pattern here. I am rooting like hell for UGA and Bama, but history shows that we will play close or come out fast then just stop instantly.

I think I am, as well as others on here, tired of getting our hopes up as this might be the game to turn it. Until that game happens, then I am just going in assuming that the pattern will continue vs good teams.

Im still rooting for and supporting the team

Lets talk after TAMU. We win, he stays, he loses, he better beat either UGA or ua.
