With UF and UT both having openings, it ain't looking good. I am confident AU matches or exceeds UT in attractiveness to a candidate, but not so much with UF. Put both of them together and any coaching search will be tough sledding this year.

And that's before we consider Arky. If Arky fires Bert there's another competitor. Yes, AU is a better job but it's not because of money since Arky can compete with anyone where cash is concerned.

As painful as this is to say, I agree.

Florida
Tennessee
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Ole Miss

These are the jobs I think are open when all said and done.

We should all be hoping Gus figures some things out and we don't have a decision to make. It would be best for Auburn in the long run. There is no magic potion out there.

Agree with this too.

But I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Mullen will be the next Gator Coach. Mark it down.. New AD is from MSU. If he is not, then that should tell you all you need to know about how big a POS Mullen really is.

We are a better situation than UT or Arkie.

TAMU and their deep pockets is the one that concerns me.

Just so I understand:

It doesn't matter what happens to our football program, or how our administration feels about our coaches' job performance. We should keep our HC simply because there are too many other schools replacing theirs.

In other words, Gustav is guaranteed to keep his job because we can't compete with Florida, Tennessee, Arky and possibly TAMU when it comes to attracting coaching talent. That about right?

This might be the logic. I don't know that I agree with the logic, but if you run a coach who is losing to teams of equal or greater talent and beating everyone he should beat you'll be searching against teams that are complete dumpster fires where fans would be willing to let you build a team back up. It could be the small thing which would encourage a coach to take Program X over Auburn.

Gus Malzahn will probably do just enough to keep his job, which sucks.

I think the stars are lining up for Gus to keep his job.We Will skull frick AM this week, they will quit on Sumlin after yesterday. We get UGA in a good spot on schedule so will be close. Those things coupled with we will not have a new AD and other openings means Gus gets next year. I will probably go ahead and get in the Liver transplant list for next year. No point in wasting time.

It should be a factor.... tho not the sole reason against firing him. Five years ago we were competing against 3 other sec teams, so it’s not that unheard of.

8-4 (5-3) is going to make Gus really hard to fire IMO.... especially with 3 or more high profile jobs open in our area.

I hope not. I don't want to hear another fricking word about how we have to fire Gus and JJ this time next fall so we need to rip off the bandaid and go get our next big coach that won't be as good as what we have. This board has been in full melt down mode since week 2 and it is a miserable place to visit where as I used to love getting on here.

I dont think we will get run out of the building, by either of those teams. Our D is good enough to keep both those games within 10 pts. Baring a shitload of turnovers on offense. Our D will be the best unit either UGA or Bama will face all year.

No, other teams KNOW which direction they are going at the moment as far as changing directions but we have no idea at the moment mainly due to our AD twisting in the wind.

Who is dumb enough to hire Gus? Do jobs like Iowa State, Oregon State, Minnesota want Gutless Malzahn?
