quote:Was just thinking this. When the AD or SID in the 80s started claiming them in the game day and media programs, most didn't buy into it. Then they started puting it on shirts and cups and more Bama fans started buying into it. Then Bama won in 1992 and people needed to claim a number and a majority of Bama fans, and some media, started using the new claimed championships. Over time more and more people started accepting it, but there were a lot of people who would argue it. Then saban came along and reeled off so many that almost no one, including Bama fans, cares enough to really argue it anymore.
I remember pre-Saban when disputing the number of Alabama national titles was serious business. But now? After 4 more national championships and in the middle of one of the most impressive runs in college football history? Who gives a shite about 1941?

Wicked troll, dude. Really solid, startlingly original work.
Sigh. The Rant has become a shadow of what it once was. Make the Rant great again! Build a wall!

We're replacing 1941 with Justin Thomas' 2017 FedEx Cup title.
So there you go. Even Steven.

1941 Final AP poll
1-Minnesota
14-Georgia
16-Miss St -SEC champion
17-Ole Miss
18-Tennessee
20-Alabama - National Champions
?????
That was a down year for the AP. Forced CFB fans to use other media sources, like say, Houlgate

I would say after we win #17 this year we just keep the claim at 16 and drop 1941.
But then all my sister/cousin/wife (same person) would have to change her tattoo.

Nobody really knows. I'm all for claiming an iffy national title from the old days if you have a decent claim, but 1941 is a joke.
It's pretty much solely responsible for all the jokes and memes.

To eliminate confusion, I just claim everything. Sixty-eight football NC's. Roll tide.

Because we own the college football world and we fricking can.
We'll claim 2003 and 2007 if we want to, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

It gave them more titles than Notre Dame at the time (shortly after Bryant retired). Why they went with 1941 over 1945 or 1966 is a mystery.

1945, 1966, and 1977 would have all been better claims. I still don't know why we don't claim '66. Had won back to back National Championships prior, and got absolutely jobbed by the media.

May as well claim 66. Other SEC programs claim real iffy "titles" from around then.

I dunno. It's embarrassing and gives credence to people questioning all the other ones, which are all much, much more legitimate, in the same way because of the total jackleg reasoning behind this one.
I hate it.

1941 is an abomination and should not be 'claimed'
1945 isn't claimed and for very good reason(s)
1966 has an argument to be 'claimed' but isn't
Do you know the great thing in all this? It doesn't even matter because even if you just use AP national championships Bama has more than anyone else which makes this discussion meaningless. It is a Fact that Alabama has the most Prestigious & Historic winning tradition in all of college football.

That year was our participation trophy combined with a Life Champion trophy =

Its sad...Auburn doesn't claim 1914 but that year was unique like any other year. Auburn won or tied each game they played and the opponent scored zero pts. If Auburn claimed titles the bama does we would have more than 2 at least 5.
Everytime I hear a bama fan say "we have 16 titles" it disgusts me.

We were shafted in '45, '66 and '77. Those last two would have both been involved in three-peats.
