Why would Nike want [Recruit] at a mid major basketball
it doesnt always matter where they go, but just already having that logo attachment/relationship. This is what the big 3(shoes) have been doing. It's an easy marketing transition when they go pro, rather than a rebrand

Wall Street Journal wrote an article saying the FBI pretense for this whole thing is basically legal gymnastics
It is legal gymnastics, but it the angle isn't new. They aren't trying to break new ground, plenty of people have been prosecuted for accepting bribes and taking some action while working at places that get federal funds.

You might as well change the subject of this thread to "As NCAA Basketball Burns." With the apparel companies, AAU organizations, etc. all involved, the justice department may run through CBB like Sherman.

UK and Bama are both Nike schools. Why would Nike want Petty at a mid major basketball school like Alabama instead of the most watched team in the nation?
I'll be honest, I have a feeling the guy was just running his mouth and didn't know shite.
However, to play devil's advocate...as you said, Petty was a mid 30s player. When you look at the kids who are going to Kentucky, how much playing time would a mid 30s player/borderline NBA starter get at UK?
If he goes to Bama, he is pretty much a guaranteed starter and potentially the face of the program. He may not be on national tv as much, but his minutes are much higher and so he is seen by more NBA scouts than if he was riding the bench at UK. He may not be a lottery pick, but if an NBA team takes a chance on him and he blossoms...

247 reporting that "Coach-2", presumed to be a Louisville assistant, was actual Pitino. No one swings a bigger dick than this guy...

quote:starting to look that way, especially with the "atta boy" that the FBI gave us while meeting with the prez. There is no way any of these HC's could have known of, nor would be part of, a scheme to defraud and lie to their own players. They make too much money to chance blowing it all on chicken feed money like Person did
My prediction is that the 2 paid players become ineligible but not much happens to the Auburn basketball program.

Why not just allow these sportswear companies (Adidas, Nike, UA, etc.) to sign kids. If they wanna role the dice and sign a 15 year old kid, let them do it.
I know that murkies the amateurism model, but it would stop some of this shady business.

Also stop making these kids come to school for a year, it's ruining the sport.

Because then those kids would be forced to play for one of their schools........and the shoe companies would be forcing kids to go where they wanted them.......which would mean shoe companies were buying players for schools.

Essentially what is already going on...
Just allow the top players to go straight to the NBA again and college basketball would be in a better spot.

we were talking about that in another thread. I agree. Go straight out of HS or do like college baseball. If you step foot on a University campus, you owe them three years. The sad thing is.....there will still be corruption.

This! Either try to be LeBron or leave after your junior year like in football. frick this one and done shite. It’s ruined college basketball.

Wonder if any of these guys paid players like it is alleged Louisville did. So far no one's saying they did.

I think you are missing two key points the argument is based on
1- Nike was laying for Petty regardless of if he went UK or Bama to ensure Adidas didn't steal the kid
2- Bama pressure Nike to deliver recruits
Not sure why you think Nike wouldn't love for one of their name brand top contract schools to be good at basketball too.

Auburn is fricked, no matter how you spin it

In what terms?
I'd bet money that we are tournament eligible and Bruce isn't fired
Worst case we lose two players + probation unless more comes out

In order to clean up recruiting we should just pay the players and start a draft for high school athletes.
