I'm not on Instagram so I have no way of knowing it this is true, but I saw on Reddit that Brad Stevens deleted his account.

I get why he has that reputation, but I still consider him one of the best.
This thread is ok for a bit and then devolves really quickly.

Games are likely to follow Mario Kart World and GTA 6's lead with an $80 base price tag, according to several analysts, but only the biggest of games will be able to pull it off unscathed.

Like Mario Kart World before it, GTA 6's price has raised big question marks over the heads of anyone worried about higher video game costs. Will $80 become the new standard? Not exactly, say some analysts we talked to, but they will become much more common in the months and years following GTA 6's November release date.

DFC Intelligence's David Cole explains to GamesRadar+ that "the industry has already been moving to this price point, led by Nintendo," a publisher that launches games with all sorts of price tags attached. "The issue is there are only a handful of premium games that command this price point."

quote:

Essentially, not every game will have the easiest time launching at $80. Grand Theft Auto and Super Mario can because they're, well, Grand Theft Auto and Super Mario. Cole adds that Rockstar Games is continuing a precedent "for only the most in-demand games with a built-in initial audience... It is the industry going towards a tiered pricing model where it is recognized that some games simply provide much more value than others and should be priced accordingly."

Joost van Dreunen echoes the point, saying the new $80 standard will be "reserved for only a select few titles and franchises" that can command it, and publishers that try to charge $80 on games that don't deliver "will likely come to regret that."

I didn't write this

A lot of franchises will be finding out they aren't the "must haves" they think they are if they try to jack up prices.

Exactly what I'm saying. If they're smart (lol), they won't attempt it and then have to backtrack on their pricing, which will be even worse PR wise.

"Maybe we should consider that we're not putting out one of the most highly anticipated games in the last 20 years..."
I don't have an opinion about the disc issue, but I'll say again, studios are going to have to know that only so many games are going to be able to get away with that price point, GTA being maybe the only one currently, and now with this uproar, I don't see it driving prices up. Goodwill with the gaming community is on very thin ice, this would destroy it completely.
Generally it's true, but like with all things, you want to verify.

The blurb about the download size being close to 600gb was from a satire account but it ran like wildfire over social media. So with stuff like that, you shouldn't need a community note.
If this game meets expectations (IF), a $100 price will feel warranted.

What's making people worry about this is "what's everyone else going to start charging for their games", and I honestly don't see a release in our near future that will come close to GTA 6's scope..........again, if it lives up the build up. So I'm personally not too concerned this will start a trend.
The Destiny team was 1K+. If you don't think every large dev team has this demographic, you're living in a bubble.

I didn't play the game much the last few years, but the constant complaints about it were repetitive content and harsh grinds. I know it's easier for you to simply blame woke and DEI, but bad content is bad content.

Definitely not going to pre-order, but debating if I want this on PC or PS5.

I don't have a Pro, and I won't bother with modding.

Rockstar must have hired a bunch of ex-CoD devs for the file size to be that large.

bruh
GTA 5 is a tough one because it initially released the day I finally put my Atari in the attic.
I think people are elevating R* and CDPR as the last soldiers standing in this battle against the current gaming environment and they keep getting their hearts broken:lol:
