The best was Ken Stabler. The worst was Brandon Avalos.

Over 240 yards passing against Bama both years...

Nah. Nate Peterman and Simms are the true tossups.
I was trying to stick to guys that were actual starters for at least close to a season. Simms at least played in the NFL for a few years.
If we are going with any QB that has started a game for VOLS, I would list AJ Suggs, James Banks, CJ Leak etc

Best: Either Danny Wuerffel or Timmy Tebow. There's really no wrong choice between these two. They both rank among the best college QBs to ever play the game.
Worst: This is a really tough question, so I'm going to limit my choices to this millennium. Looking at QBs from other eras isn't really fair and choosing one would be super difficult. So I'm going to say the worst was either Jeff Driskel or Treon Harris. John Brantley IV got a lot of flak but he was somewhat a victim of the circumstances. He got no consistency from the coaches, and during the year we had Cheeseburger Charlie running the offense he was actually pretty good until he got hurt.

I know the game has changed, blah, blah, but there's no argument for Stabler or Namath or anybody else for that matter against McCarron. His three years as a starter at Bama make up the best career of any Bama QB, and it's not really close.

Kenny Stabler may have been before your time, but I would put him at a minimum as the equal of Joe Namath.

Best: in my lifetime - Andre Woodson, Tim Couch, Jared Lorenzen. Hon mention Bill Ransdell and Derrick Ramsey (who moved to TE in the NFL.)
Before my time: Babe Parilli, George Blanda
Worst: I won't try - unfortunately a lot of terrible / forgettable QB's mixed in with the ones who were competent / decent but not at the top. With a program like UK you also have to ask how often a potentially good QB was held back by an overall bad team and coaching, or vice versa

quote:There's a difference in being the best QB and being on the best team overall. They would have cleaned house on his teams. He wouldn't have done much with theirs. 21 5*s would find a way to win despite the coach or QBs. Look how great simms looked away from them.

They wouldn't have even known how to compete with today's athletes.
quote:Jesus. Yeah, he would have really struggled throwing the ball 10 times a game against smaller, slower DBs and defenders and handing it off the rest of the time. You act like those Bama teams didn't have as much talent as anybody else, too.
He wouldn't have done much with theirs

Tommy Hodson was selected as first tesm All SEC four times. I want to say he's the only QB to ever accomplish that. Its rare enough at other positions.
I'd put Rohan as the best since, shame he was made of glass.

There's no way you put Matt Flynn over JaMarcus Russell. I mean, you can, but Russell was a superior QB.

Tend to agree Juice.
Flynn did win a NC in his only year starting, but you're right Jamarcus was superior.

Yep. Davey went off in 2000 and 2001.
