Day 1 of the addiction. Any golfers on the rant? Tips/tricks?

Read Hogan's book.
Practice putting the most- especially 4,7 and 10 footers.
Learn to chip. Practice chipping with different clubs until you are comfortable with a favorite.
Learn to pitch. Sometimes you will have to pitch over a bunker or creek.
Develop a consistent tee shot. Starting with a 3 wood may be a little easier.
Have fun. Play forward tees until you break 90, then move back one tee.
This is recreation. Enjoy yourself.

It's a good hobby to pick up because you'll be able to do it when you're old. I'm young and joined my HS team mainly to get out of class then started enjoying it and got decent enough at it to make it to sub state as an individual. Now it's a get away from the house hobby.

Read Dave Stockton's Unconscious Scoring.

Keep your head on the ball all the way through your swing.
until follow through of course. But if you look up before making contact, which is easy to do, you will raise up a bit and many times top the ball and hit a roller. At least that's what I've done in the past.

Don't overthink it.
Practice. Practice. Practice.
Practice. Practice. Practice.

Left eye on the ball, left arm straight, don't turn your head until you've hit the ball. I said this assuming youre righty.
Also, smoke a joint 10 minutes before hand.

I suggest you acquire some Canadian Club as it makes your swing appear better.

no matter how good it gets, don't ever think you will master the game of golf!! i can shoot upper 70s one day and 90 the next! very frustrating, but i love it!

Get rid of them immediately and never again trust the person that talked you into getting them in the first place.

Don't take it to serious and get some lessons.

Hit the ball on the sweet spot; repeat

Only tip I have would be to hit it long and straight every time.

Learn to hit your driver first. If you are completely new to golf take a lesson. Being able to find the sweet spot consistently when hitting your driver is exhilarating. It will keep you coming back. (plus it will make it cheaper since you won't lose as many balls) Then work your ace off on putting because that is what will separate the good golfers from the bad golfers (i'm a bad golfer because of short game). work your way back from there... chips, pitches, short irons, long irons.

Do not develop a driver swing first
Groove a 7-8 iron swing that you can repeat, and work from there. Even hitting plastic golf balls helps.
