These are per 100k statistics?
True, but cities are obviously going to have more crime than college towns.
5 points alone probably has more crime than Starkville and Oxford combined

Metro Baton Rouge has a population of approximately 825,000 people and is all of an hour drive from New Orleans. It is a heavily populated area and industrialized area with large port facilities. To compare to Starkville, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Fayetteville, etc. is somewhat ridiculous.
Look at Jackson Metro which is considerably smaller than BR. Look at Birmingham. Apples to apples.
That being said, it is no secret that Baton Rouge to New Orleans industrial corridor is a violent area. Always has been.

1. Corndogs are Nebraska and Iowa fans.
2. Baton Rouge is one of, if not THE the largest city and metro area and most populous listed with 800,000 people.
3. 90% of the crime happens in North Baton Rouge and not near campus or downtown.

I wonder what the common statistic among the leading cities may be. Hmm.

For the city data, it is in the city limits. Yes... northern part of the city is the city. Is the campus in the city limits?

This is quite stupid. Yes, larger cities tend to have a higher crime rate than smaller towns. Shocking. Knoxville and Baton Rouge are large cities on their own, without the universities. Trying to compare Oxford to a place like Knoxville is just ridiculous.

It ain't the corn dogs. It's the southern jaguars.

Higher population, which means more people living in poverty. Those are the areas that have high crime rates.

I'm not disputing any of the rankings, but crime statistics can be heavily influenced by the aptitude and policies of the police department. An inept police department can easily depress their numbers by not properly recording and reporting crimes.

Do they have any statistics on piss balloon incidents?

Baton Rouge and Knoxville bigger then Nashville?
I love Nashville but no one who has spent time in both cities seriously believes they're safer in Nashville than in Knoxville. They're pretty on par.
The problem with crime stats is that they're not universally reported and there's no rule or guideline that requires crime stats to be kept or reported. IOW, city A could be hell town for all we know while city B that chooses to track and report crime stats better or more efficiently may well be a helluva lot safer.
ETA: Also, Nashville is Vol town so...

Your numbers for Baton Rouge are half the correct population. Baton Rouge Proper which includes surrounding but connected small towns is 893,000.
